Default "COLD" air intake causing high iats?

hello all. i got a 00 chevrolet sclb 1500 w/ 4.8. i just bought hp tuners because i installed an intake and exhaust, figured next thing i need would be a tune. after installing the intake the truck was slower by quite alot, "boggy". i thought the fueling was off. hooked up the scanner, let it warm up and my iat was pegged at 150 degrees. thats got to be too high. would wrapping the aluminum intake pipe solve this or is something else wrong?

I had the same problem, a wrapped plastic pipe is much better.

what's proven to be good is using the stock box and cutting the bottom off and removing the steel support underneath... about the best air you can get.

as far as the tube, just a pvc with a 90 elbow into the intake gets it done just as well as any high price kit... just doesnt look as pretty

this was the 70$ kit off ebay. figured all it was was a tube and air filter. imagine how many people buy these cheap pos and never realize the high iats. hows that for gas mileage...... il try wrappin it. if that doesnt work i chop my stock stuff.

is the heat shield bolted to the back of the mass air sensor like the K&N intakes?
If so thats your problem been there !
The shield heat soaks then warms the sensor.... i shot every part with a temp gun to find this issue on my truck

no ts not pegged at cold start. it climbs while idling. when im running down the road at 50 or so its falls slowly to about 5 degrees above ambient temp. when i stop at a light it jumps up to 150 quick so when i take off the truck has less power. air density.

You can mod the stock air box as mentioned above (some guys have made some home made cai's look better than than the expensive kits IMO, there is a recent thread in the GM Engine and Exhaust section: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=480359 that has some pics of a real nice one that Steve-O-08 made)...another option is to relocate the IAT sensor away from the MAF somewhere, maybe closer to the throttle body, or in the side of the intake where the EGR goes in (if you plan to delete the EGR). Do some tests with an infrared thermometer to see where the coolest spot is...
