Default New shitbox! 2003 gmc Sierra rclb turbo truck build

Well I sold my prerunner silverado and pretty much instantly regretted it. Was looking for something to pick up to mess around with. I drove 2.5 hours up to Washington for a 2011 gmc Sierra extended cab truck because the owner told me it was 2wd and I didn’t fully inspect the rpo codes for the transfercase code. Oh well. I ended up picking this up last night and I’m kinda in love with it so far. It is pretty beat up in person. Dents in the bed, door has some over spray or spray paint on it. Needs just some love put back into it but it has a healthy 4.8l in it with long tubes in it already, 3.73 gears as well. I ordered a cast turbo manifold and gt45 Chinese noisy boi for it and plan on boosting the 4.8l 100% stock on low boost hoping to keep the 4l60e alive. I’ll be doing a corvette servo and probably a limited slip in the rear also. Spent today taking some weight out of the truck. It already feels really light but I’m gonna scale it tonight. Also throwing some 17’s on it and these wheels are gonna go on my Tahoe for a bit.

Pulled the ac since it wasn’t working and I don’t personally like ac. Pulled a bunch of other little brackets like the fender reinforcements, front skid plate, dropped a noco npl30 lithium ion battery in the truck (weighs 5.5lbs) that I yanked out of my wife’s Vette that I’m selling. Scaled the truck last night and it came in at 4300lbs, 4450 with my skinny *** in it. Also threw some 17’s on it today, the 22’s were 82lbs a piece. These are 62lbs for the fronts and 71lbs for the rears (265/70/17 nitto ridge grapplers? Got 3 of them for $20, one of the 255/70/17’s had a hole in it) I really want to eventually go to something like a 275/60/17 in the rear and a 245/70/17 in the front. Still gotta cut a bit more weight out of it, front lower cross member, rear crossmember and spare mount, charcoal canister for the evap and what ever else I can take off easily. I have a feeling after all said and done it will be about 4300lbs after I turbo it.

also threw some mb quart speakers in the doors since the drivers speaker was missing and the passenger side speaker was a distant memory lol. I’ll update this soon with some more pics, I was just ***** deep in working on it and having fun with it. Just looks like a stock truck now with the stock wheels lol. I think I’m gonna throw the 22’s on my Tahoe as I really like how it drove with them.

I had terra grapplers on my old truck and really liked them. They were a good all around tire.

Dont like ac? Buddy you must not live anywhere remotely close to the south because we would never say such a think with the heat we experience here.

I’m in Oregon. I’ve never liked ac, both my vettes have it and I don’t think I’ve ever used it. It gives me a headache after running it just a few minutes.

that's definitely a first but hey to each its own. I couldn't imagine driving without ac in this 100 degree+ weather we see here. My silverado is around 800 wheel and I absolutely refuse to get rid of the ac, I just used the a/c iac kick feature holley offers.

honestly idk why I sold it. At the time I was trying to sell a few different vehicles along with the pre runner and the guy came to buy it and paid asking price for it. I have offered to buy it back from him a couple of times but he doesn’t respond lol.

spent a little bit of time doing some cleaning to the engine bay and underside of the truck. Pulled the lower crossmember Thats under the oil pan. Need to cut the rear cross member and spare tire bracket out. Really just wanna get rid of any dead weight on the truck. It should be about 4200lbs now as it sits. Probably dropped 5lbs alone of dirt and gravel that was up in the frame lol. It makes working on the truck so much nicer when you don’t instantly get filthy from wrenching on it. Drop spindles should be in soon, have a bunch of parts on the way, still gotta finish ordering the rest of the turbo stuff I need. Also kinda weird but this truck is a 03 and has return style rails on it. I thought the 03-06 stuff was all returnless.

Did a little more weight reduction on the truck today. Cut out the hood webbing, rear crossmember that is part of the spare tire carrier. Put some hood vents in the hood cause I like them and they will help with the heat from the turbo. Also took off the parking brake cables and brackets. I installed some 2” drop spindles on it and also wet sanded allot of the spray paint off of the truck. One of the previous owners fixed the paint by just rattle canning big dents and scratches lol. It’s looking allot better now. Wanted to go weigh the truck and the passenger side rear wheel felt like it was locking up in my driveway. Put it back on the lift and took the diff cover off. Rear end looks fine besides minor pitting on the spider gears. I ordered a limited slip carrier for it since I might as well. I think the passenger drum expanded without the spring from the cables pushing on it and caused the brake to lock up so I’ll be removing both of the brake shoes when I do the limited slip. Pretty sure the truck is down to 4200lbs or less now. Been having a blast working on this thing today. I also removed the fuel tank plastic skid plate and it had to have had at least 5lbs of mud packed into it.
She’s a little beat
