so I in the midst of building a 76mm 5.3 that I will max out around 700rwhp. I have seem many say that factory rods pistons will live. however I plan to beat this thing. so my question is will it live or forge it? I was looking at k1 rods and weisco pistons on a factory 5.3 crank. any oinions?

 

if you got the money build it...if not you will probably be fine

 

If the tune is right it'll live for awhile. But if you have a tuning mistake or something, those stock pistons will bust a ring land. Next to go after that would be the stock PM rods. I'd do a forged rotating assy if you really wanted to live long-term.

 

if weak rod motor then 700 -750 is safe limit

if strong rod motor then 700 is plenty safe, ive made over 1000 rwhp with stock internals

 

what do you mean by that ? I have a 2005 avalanche 5.3 lm7 I plan on k1 bolts, cam and springs, and setting the ring gap a little bigger other than that id rather not touch it.

 

05 motor is strong rod...

Are you guys calling the floating wrist pin rods the "strong" rods? I used them in my 5.3 build with the ARP bolts and did not have to have the rods resized.

 

from what i understand the 05+ motors have a stronger rod the then 04 and earlier.

 

If you compare the rods side by side the newer rods are much much beefier.
