Default Speaker Upgrade Help

I'm in the process of upgrading my stereo system. The previous owner did some upgrades himself but I didn't know what exactly. I got around to removing the door panels and found MB Quart CD146 4x6's in the rear and Polk EX2560 6.5's, tweeters, and crossovers in the front doors. One of the 4x6's was dead, so I was going to replace it. What about the Polk speakers? They are working fine, just curious if there is something better.

My head unit is a Kenwood BT952 with 22W RMS, 50W peak per channel. I will not be adding an amp for the speakers. I'm looking for speakers that this unit will have no issue supporting. Will the Polk speakers be too much for this unit?

This should hopefully be my last thread about car audio

Thanks!

I love my focal componets... They are about 2 years old and sound as good as the day i installed them and they get flat out abused everyday... They are pricey but well worth it.

^^^ focal is amazing i wish i could get me some.
first off what is your budget.
another option i would suggest would be the rockford t1s.

and if these are going in your extended cab i would replace the 4x6s in the back with 6.5s. its what i did you barely have to trim out any and they fit perfectly.

I would prefer to not trim at all. I looked at the 4x6 T1's, and they are 45W RMS when my head unit is only rated for 22W RMS. Is this an issue? Do I have to find a speaker that is below 22W? I will not be blasting them very often, but don't want to fry things when I do. These are also a bit pricey for me.

Will the Polk mids and tweeters in the front cause damage? They are rated 2-70W RMS. Thanks

I've been looking at these: (Sort Best Rated) 4" x 6" Speakers | Car Speakers | Car Audio | Car Audio, Video & GPS at Sonic Electronix

I'd like to keep it under $70 each.

and out of the ones on the link you sent i would have to go with either the pioneer or the jl audio. im a fan of both of them. MTX ive heard good things about but my experience with them just isnt the best. my friend has those infinitys that are 69.95 and they dont sound to bad.

Those polk speakers will be fine running off a head unit, but I would suggest running some small amplifier just to get better performance out of them. Look at alpines KTP-445U, it can easily fit behind your dash and will reuse your current stereos wiring to boost power output to 45watts rms per speaker.

That being said, I would look into the pol DXi460 speakers. They sound pretty good, off either a head unit or amp, but be aware that if you're going to run more power to them, any 4x6 speaker needs to be crossed over properly to avoid overrunning the mechanical limits of the speaker by trying to make it play too low, I'd recommend setting a high pass filter to somewhere around 100hz.

Thanks for the help. I went ahead and got the Polk DXi460's. Good specs, high sensitivity, and now all of my speakers will be Polk.

I'm going to keep the front component speakers in unless someone suggests otherwise. The Kenwood unit seems to handle them okay. I don't like terribly loud music so hopefully there won't be an issue.
