I hope I'm not late for work!

If you look at the forward hub, its a pretty brittle looking piece. That really should be the first upgrade. As for the shafts, you have to consider what the shafts experience... The input shaft at maximum engine torque is only operating in a short RPM range, basically whatever your shift extensions are. But the intermediate shaft experiences more instantaneous changes in RPM, and that's what breaks shafts. So that's why that shaft is what is upgraded first. Also, stock48 has run 1000hp through his stock input shaft for the better part of a decade now
If you don't lock the converter at WOT the stock input shaft is probably ok, but I didn't want to leave anything to chance. The stock input shaft is weakened due to the oiling hole. The stock TH400 input shaft doesn't have this hole and is significantly stronger than the 80e piece.

Whats the plan? You gonna build it yourself? My trans has been with Gilbert for over 5 weeks...supposed to be a 2 week turnaround LOL!!!! I will try to build my own again, I had the big snap ring and the smaller swapped on the trans I sent Gilbert. It popped out of the groove and caused a failure.

Got the trans apart in the garage and have the new shaft on the table. Directs and forwards looked really good but intermediates are toast. Should hopefully have it back together this week sometime.

Before you out everything back together test fit you new input shaft into the torque converter. A friend of mine bought a billet shaft the other day that would not fit. He ended up buying a TCI billet shaft that worked.

Had that issue with my billet input shaft. Just needed to file down the tiny burrs on the splines.
