A # 4 size mesh is .185 hole size. This is nylon plastic and stainless also rated for suction.

My only concern with the other one is the that its zinc plated and it will corrode. It also might need a few holes in the lid as well.

So the one we use at work looks like the "Miniature Suction Strainer with 1-1/2 Female Unthreaded Pipe Connection" Style from Mcmaster carr.

I just could not get a spec on what mesh they actually use. The biggest pump Flows 23 GPM on the clean side and the chiller is rated at 90,000 BTU

The # 20 size mesh it the largest mesh on that style filter which is .0328 -.0331 and # 4 mesh is .185 -.187 depending on whos conversion chart you look at...

Any way food for thought....

Are you gonna stop complaining if I use that hose instead?

The strainer I posted is a lot bigger so it'll be less restriction. I'm not worried about small stuff, just big pieces of ice. May powdercoat it so it doesn't rust.

Nope...

If we can suck closed the normal reinforced PVC hose that is not rated for vacuum at 23 GPM in 80* weather. What will happen at 50GPM???

My thought was that if you blocked part of that strainer, it might become restricted. Part of why I thought a few holes in the top of it might be beneficial. Enough restriction can cause the pump to cavitate. Also should vent the cooler so it doesn't suck itself in.

It's all big science experiment to me...

It's your truck, do as you wish.

I think you guys really underestimate how stiff this damn hose is. I can jump up and down on it at 260lb and still not crush it. That other hose is appealing since I need to make a couple tight bends though, seems to be more flexible than what I have.

He is just projecting his homosexuality here because he misses George...

Do you know what the durometer of the hose is?
