Default New guy from Florida

Hey guys, My name is Geoff and I live in Panama City, Florida. Just recently bought an 09 Chevy Silverado crew cab with the 4.8 liter. I had traded in my 08 HHR SS turbo in on this truck. I had tuned it with HP-Tuners and looking into tuning the truck with it as well.

Has anyone here tuned there 4.8 liter? And had any good power gains from it? The truck seems to have no bottom end power off the line at all as of being stock, even if the rating is at 295hp and 305tq.

Anyways, Here are some pics of the truck and some pics of my wife's car

Geoff

Nice Rides and Welcome to Performance Trucks. I am relatively new to the site, but I also have a 4.8L I am in the process of tuning my truck...but here on Guam, no Dyno. The biggest gains I have seen so far is long tube headers, exhaust and the cold air intake. I have a 212/218 comp cam on the way. The last thing to do is Tune. I bought the HP tuner and reading ever so much on how to use the thing.

I will let you know how it all turns out.

I learned a great bit from the HPT website on tuning the HHR, but there is alot more stuff to tune on this truck. I looked at the file, and I have no idea were to even start, other than getting the MAF dialed in.

Did you not install the LS6 cam, I have read that it is a good cam for the 4.8 and the 5.3.

I was seriously moments away from stabbing it in the block, then a bigger cam made itself available. I still have the LS6 cam...just waiting for someone to buy it. I know it is a good cam, I was just torn between stock idle or one that loped a bit. Loped a bit won! If you are looking for a good DD cam with a stock idle that you can put in and drive as is...the LS6 cam is the best bet. I have heard it is good for 15-20 hp increase as is. If you still have your HP tuner...you can make it even better. cost of horsepower is really low. IMO a good deal. I needed a bigger cam for what I plan on doing.

Thanks guys for the welcomes

Suddog, I really wouldn't mind getting the cam, just kinda low on funds, and may get one first part of the year along with some other stuff.

No worries. I might just keep it and install it in the wife's Denali.
