K..I was gonna go Radix..but being in college and not wanting to waste all my money on the blower, Ive decided to ditch the idea and run with somethign else.
I was thinking of doing a cam...what do you guys recommend????
What else should I do while im in there..within reason...rods and springs? if so which ones???
Ive heard some talk about needing a stall converter if you get a cam...why is the reason for this? will the truck be crap without one? I wanna hear some opinions on this, as I dont know squat about cams for these 5.3L's....
thnks

a few run a the TR220 cam including a couple of rcsbs with 5.3Ls and bolt-ons runnin 12.5 1/4 mi. times.......
if it was me i would do cam, COMP 918 valve springs(some cams can get away with ls6 springs) , COMP 7.4" hardened pushrods, LS2 timing set, LS6 oilpump
the comp 210/218 is a good torque cam from what i hear
there is a cam page that is very useful, however it is down at the moment but when up and runnin it is very useful, its in a sticky in the gm engine and exhaust section

the reason to running a stall converter is because most bigger cam loose low end torque..but if your going to run the stock torque converter the comp 212 218 .522 .529 114 lsa cam is a good cam to run..i ran this cam with a stock converter and was really impressed..i ran ls6 springs and my stock pushrods....but say your going to go a 2800-3000 stall the TR 220/224 are good cams also..better pushrods are always a plus

tr 220/224...who makes that? is the tr220 cam jsut to big of a cam with a stock torque converter???
Also...what would be advatages of doing the oil p[ump and timing set?? hwo are they better than stock? better flow and precision?

the oil pump flows more than a stock turck oil pump
the timing set is bigger and beefier that the stock truck timing set
tr= thunder racing either the 220/220 or the 224/224 - two different cams
will you be getting a stall converter?
IMO ( not what anybody else on this site thinks) i dont think you NEED a stall converter for ANY big cam but it is nicer and puts you in the powerband quicker
it would be like the stock cam til 2800-3000+ or whenever the cam "turns on" and then the power hits and stays there until redline
i think people over rate stalls too much

TR 220 and TR 224 cams are made bywww.thunderracing.com with a tr220 cam it would be a little slow taking off, with would be good with a 2600-3000 stall, the ls6 oil pump is supposed to flow better..ls2 timing chain..ive heard every one say to go to that but never heard why....but if your going stay with the stock converter get a comp 212 218 cam and some 4.10 gears

its just every time a bigger than stock cam comes up its "you better have a stall or that cam aint worth ****" NO it will just be like a stock cam until it revs up to the power range
JMO no offense to anybody else
