my problem is that I can’t find anyone that makes a blower for an lq4 older than 2003. I’m not sure why the year matters besides the fact that I have Iron heads. Is it the port shape that matters? Will a little fab work make something else fit? Unfortunately I’m pretty new to this.

Maybe it's a detonation thing, since the aluminum heads would dissipate heat faster. Or it could be a sealing thing, since it eliminates the thermal growth rate differential between iron and aluminum.

Getting a set of aluminum heads built with larger valves and some mild porting would compliment the blower well.

yeah, I was just trying to keep this swap as cheap as possible. Was going to try to find a used screw type blower to keep the heat down compared to roots, and give this stock motor a little more pep.

Could also have to do with the EGR system that is was still in place up to 2001 and the return fuel system on the 99-03 trucks.

But that little stuff doesn't really matter. The EGR would be deleted and it's easy to hook up a fuel system to work. A cable throttle body might need a bracket made to hold the cable but again that's pretty easy to do, if that is what it came down too.

A supercharger, MAP sensor, injectors and a fuel pump would wake up any engine.

I was planning on just buying an efi system with trans control and everything, but after I decided a blower would be nice, I’m holding back on what to buy. Unfortunately I just don’t have enough knowledge on the subject, and the internet seems to have a lot more ls info than lq4 info. lol

Ok started working on the truck again. When the wife ask “what’s that ticking noise?” That’s when you have to addressing the leaking exhaust manifold. So as much as I wanted to do everything at once, I couldn’t. Just gonna piece everything in for now. But I installed the Speed Engineering True Dual Rear Exit Exhaust this past week. Everything kinda went well. Luckily I got to do it inside my brothers pole barn to stay away from the cold weather the north east just got. But we got the exhaust out without breaking any bolts out of the manifold. Luckily the 2 that were already broke were just the heads and they had enough to grab with vise grips. The rest was cut out with the good ole sawzaw.
But there was a catch with some non exhaust stuff. First the dip stick gave us trouble. After looking this up, I found out it was a common issue. So it broke in the block. We screwed a lag style screw inside, lubed up and pulled and preyed. Luckily it popped out.
Second issue was that I had to replace my stock starter that worked perfectly fine until I tried removing the wire on the tiny stud. Of course it snapped so I got a new one of those too.
But the headers went in great. I installed my egr delete plate into the intake while I was in that area. The rest of the exhaust went into the areas fairly easy. I installed new rubber hangers with the exhaust bc the originals were crapping out.
After I got everything into place I noticed an issue. I was a little short on pipe. I called SE and they told me that with that kit with the 1500HDs bc they have a 6.5 bed instead of a 5.5 bed that I have to extend the pipe that is after the Xpipe. And yes it was in the description of there product so it was my fault that I didn’t have all the right parts.
But I fixed that issue with ordering a 4ft piece of 3” stainless 304 exhaust tubing and 2 stainless butt clamps. Each piece I cut was 9”. That was enough to fix the open space.
Once all the exhaust was fitted and tightened fairly in the clamps I went around all to all the clamps and loctited them, them cranked them tight. Everything tightened up nicely. There’s a few areas that I’m gonna have welded so there’s not as much clamps and for some security.
Once I started the truck I checked all around and didn’t hear any leaks. Mission accomplished. So for right now the rear oxygen sensor wires are tucked up and the egr wire is pushed away so it does get caught on anything.
I took the truck for a quick spin. It sounded very nice. I don’t think I’ll hear any type of drone. Once I give it a good 20 plus mile drive I’ll hop underneath and check my clamps. But so far I’m very happy with how the kit went together, the way it looks and the way it sounds.
Next on the list is installing the rest of my AEM wideband sensor. Installing the catch can and installing the electric fan kit.
I’ll give you an update afterwards. Hopefully it won’t be to long.

Looking Good

If you have drone you'll find out quick. It's annoying and always seems to be a cruise speed making it worse. I have the SE true duals too. When I had the shiny stainless mufflers I didn't have drone, I thought they sounded awesome. After about a year one of the mufflers developed a buzzing type rattle during idle that drove me crazy lol. Swapped to a pair of Magnaflows and they were awesome as well until the normal packing wear/loss. Installed a pair of Vibrant resonators if front of the Magnaflows and that quietened things back to awesome again!
