6.6 LS GM's New Beast
#1
I've been reading up on the new 6.6, seems it is an iron blocked and water jacketed 6.2. This should be a fun new engine platform to have to play with. I'm thinking new HD truck will have one especially since GM retained the 6l80. What are yalls opinions of the new mill?

It's just there to meet market demands. But will be interesting to see what these new offerings will be capable of in terms of torque and horsepower. GM with the 6.6, Ford with the 7.3, and Chrysler's 7.0 that I don't think has been announced yet.

There is no word yet on what ECM the truck uses so this whole "fun" thing may just be a pipe dream. The 19+ ECM's are already like unlocking an L5P and unless the L8T uses the same ecm as the half tons ( previous gen HD trucks did not) don't hold your breath.
That said yanking it out and putting it in a tuneable platform with an E92 ecm should work nicely.
I am currently working on getting a crank and rods from one from the dealership to drop into an LS block and building an actual LS 6.6 for my 2013's dying 6.2.
The trans is a 6L90e, not a 6L80e and is supposedly updated from the previous 6 liter HD trucks 6L90e.
Another avenue I am pursuing is retrofitting the L8T using the E92 ecm in my 2017 6 liter HD truck. If the rest of the modules on the truck talk to the e92 which they should i should be in business.
I am phoning my local GM dealer and ordering an L8T connecting rod on Monday to see what exactly it is I end up with lol.

I doubt it will be tunable period in those trucks.. unless it's the same ecm. Otherwise the 10 guys that will want to do something won't overcome the fleet sales market which drives the gas HD trucks and they aren't calling for tuning.. No loss as they are the ugliest things on the road.

I got a rod from one of these 6.6s and.... it appears identical to any full float pin ls rod. Rough measurement shows its the same length as an ls as well... so either they raised the deck height or the piston pin height. So I need custom pistons and a crank if I want to build an LS 6.6 out of the 6.2 core I have.

I need pistons anyways so I will likely still do it. The crank is worthless to buy so it's still cheap. Gm being how they are likely moved the pin height and kept it the same deck height as everything else.
