Default Thoughts after TransGo install...and a question

Ok I don't know how many of you had read my earlier thread about the tranny having some serious timing issues as far as getting into 2nd gear in anything less than a second. Well I had gotten LS1 Edit and played around with shift times, TQM, and line pressures and it really didn't help any. Well the truck went to the dealer since is still under warantee to see what was wrong. No real luck as it was pretty slick out and they couldn't get enough load on the tranny to get it to do it as bad as it usualy does on me, but they did find a service bulletin about a new valve body for trucks having a 1-2 shifting problem. So I set up an appointment to bring the truck back and have that done. After doing some talking to the service guy he had reccommended to do a shift kit and servo.....which I was already thinking about anyway.

Well I went to the dealer and ordered the Corvette servo, and ordered a TransGo from Summit.

Went to the dealer to day and had the new valve body installed and the shift kit. I only did one shim just for the 'firm' setting as to not make it neck snapping all the time. Ran into a problem with the servo, the dealer had only ordered the piston side and not the housing side so that was a no go for today. I only replaced the spring in that, and did not add any of the shims to it as some people had said it was only for worn trannies.

Well I took it out and BAM makes the 1-2 shift nice and quick like it should, 2-3 under part throttle is quick but not real hard, and 4th well you know it shifted but thats about it. Under WOT...it hits all the gears pretty damn quickly. I'm very happy with the results. I think I will probably go back and put the Corvette servo in it and just leave it unless something breaks but I'm pretty happy. As for the Edit on the truck right now. The total line pressure has not be increased but all part throttle pressures are the same as the tow/haul mode currently. Shift times are set at 0.200, and shift mph is raised 4 to 5mph across the board with WOT shifting at 5800, and TQ is currently at 15% if I remember correctly.

The one question I did have....and I don't know how it could do this, but before when you would floor it right off the line it would just kinda go...not really do anything...then slip into 2nd. Now you floor it and it gets going to about 10mph and just lights the one tire (no locker yet) all the way til it hits 2nd gear. How would just doing a shift kit do that? Not that I'm complaining because I think its pretty freakin cool...but just wonderin. Not really good at automatics...but at least this one is starting to be more fun to drive.

TQM ... remove it all. You have to do it on a different table besides the one in the tranny tab. I can't remember which one it is, but I think it's either in the fuel or timing tabs. Zero out all the TQM tables and that should do it.

Maybe I didn't make it quite clear but before the shift kit it wouldn't do anything but go....now it spins and has no traction til 2nd gear.....how would just doing a shift kit do that? Even with or with out changing the program it wouldn't spin them before the kit.

The only reason I have the TQM at 15% right now is to keep the tranny alive, and I have heard that it does make the truck shift slightly faster....it doesn't take to much. I forget which table I have it on though. All of the engine tables have been either zero'd or raised, depending on which it is. I have also added 2 degree's of timing now, speed limiter is gone, and rev limiters are raised. But there again...I still do't see how it made the truck drive like it does now. Its like the shift kit added power, which I know that isn't the case. Does it do anything with helping keep more force on the clutch bands?? Was it just slipping thru first gear before?

The shift kit fools the tranny and the PCM. That is still TQM messing with stuff. TQM comes into play on a good launch too.

ATAP it and see. I would bet that you will see the timing spike when the power comes on like that. Adding some timing will also help it out.

So then removing it all...is going to make it hook? I'll have to play around with it for a bit tomorrow. I don't have access to AutoTap right now or I would do some logging with it...kinda also why I've been a little easy about the reprograms til I get some way of logging the runs.

I want one now

I thought it shifted very nice when I drove it last night.

Removing it all will cause the PCM to never pull timing. TQM is what's causing you NOT to spin. I thought you were wanting it gone so that it wouldn't have a lag in it.

It doesn't really have lag in it right now.....like I said...with the only mod being the shift kit, it now blows the tires off in first....all the way thru the gear. I could see the TQM slowing it down and acting kind of like a traction control but right now the truck really doesn't care if its on or not...it just goes.
