Default Front and rear gear difference?

On a 4x4, what's the difference between the front and rear gears?
I'm thinking of going to 3.73s and a guy is sellin both his front and rear gears of his truck. I want to make sure that I get the rear gears if there IS a difference.
Thanks guys

The front is a 8.2" ring gear, and the rear is a 8.6". If I remember correctly. I THINK any of the old 8.5" rear gears will work in the rear as well, but I do know the front is a smaller gear set than the rears.
