Question PTV clearance with large 5.3 cam

I can't seem to dig around enough to find info on what's a "safe" duration/lift to run with the 5.3 and maybe heads slightly milled (706's).

I've got a LM7 going into my S10 and I'm wanting to run a fairly big cam, but have no idea what my limitations are

Just a little info on it: stock 5.3 bottom end, 706 heads (going to be milled a little to up the CR), LS1 intake, C5 accessories. I know the LS1 intake isn't the best choice, but it looks really good with the vette type covers.

Also, planning on running something between 3000-3600 stall in the truck.

thanks

good luck man. I've been trying to find out if .635 lift will clear on my 6.0 with 241s for months. I guess the best bet is maybe call a motor shop that could either run the numbers or measure it yourself but I have no clue how to do that. Sorry man

As I understand it, duration and lsa play a much more important role in PTV than lift.

It is always recommended to physically check PTV with the cam installed. The instructions on how to do it are over on LS1tech, you use clay putty I believe and then turn the motor over.

Checking PTV clearance with the cam installed isn't rocket science, but guessing and checking isn't fun when paying 350 for a custom grind. I'm assuming that since the GMPP cams are pretty large they don't have to worry about PTV with that large duration and lower lift. GMPP said the LS Stage 3 will work in a stock LS1/2/3/6/7.

You will not benifit, with a huge cam, unless you have the heads that can keep up to what the came is capable of doing.. You should be fine to 605 lift on a set of 5.3 heads, but is pointless unless they will let the cam do what it needs to do..

Yea that's what I figured since they're stock 706's, but was curious what was the limit with some rediculous heads. Probably just going to do a 226'ish with lower lift for now. btw, nice 3k posts per day John

I've got 706 heads with Comp cam custom grind 222/228 581/588 and love it.You should be fine with a 600 lift cam.
