It's probably becasue the gears are set-up as well as they could be. I don't think it will go away. I would take it back to where you got them installed and tell them to fix it. That would annoy the crap out of me! They should test drive that stuff.

What brand of gears are these? Richmond gears sill wine because they are race gears. Ever heard the saying "Gears don't wine, bad installation does".

i set up my eaton and 4.10's myself. it whines at the same speed your's does. it's not bad though. you have to be listening for it for you to hear it. my friend has a hemi and had his posi and 4.10's installed professionally and they whine alot more than mine. so in the long run i think i came out ahead, lol

Problem won't go away and if it bothers you now it will just continue to eat on you. It takes time to set up gears right and sometimes the thought is maybe this is close enough and hopefully it won't whine vs. spending another hour or two to get it right. Possible didn't have the right shims and didn't want to take the time to order or locate the right ones. So I would say take it back or talk to your gear mfg.

My rearend 4.88's have been whining (high speed) & groaning (low speed) since day one. My only advice is to make sure the shop knows about it asap, and keep on them till your happy with it. I called them right after leaving the shop, they said give it a week. Called them a week later, they rode in it, agreed it wasn't right but still suggested to put some miles on it. 2000 miles later, still whining, (no worse/no better) took it in, they took it apart, said the pattern looks good, made some adjustments but could not get it to go away. They are ordering a new set, different brand. The guy told me he has had a couple occasions that no matter what he does they can't get them quiet and they will switch brands or gearsets and it will be fine. Keep on them, there should be no noise.

I have the same set up, but went with the GM parts for the gears and the G80. I tell you what....there is no whine at all and never heard it at any speeds even at 100+.....

03 RCSB
3:73 G80
5.3L
All stock For now......

Hey guys thanx that all kinda makes me feel better. Sorry took so long but been at work. Any ways the noise dont realy bother me that much. I was just worried about it staying there and working properly. Just wanted to make sure that I didnt need to stop driving it or something. It was one of my dads friends that put it in for me and he is pretty good at this type of stuff. Besides it didnt cost me a thing but a 25 mile trip. So as long as I'm good and not going to break I can deal with a little noise every now and then.
