I know an Alabama guy that's about to have a bigger engine in his truck than you ... he's trading his little 408 nitrous motor in on it.

Um Yelo I was going to run it the way it was but since I pulled it out anyway I figured I would go ahead and get it balanced. No need for the sarcasm.

Gomer this summer the motor is going to get supersized and unless your buddy is getting the block sleeved I doubt he will have a bigger motor
So Tony is ditching the 408 huh? Would be fun the next time I come back up to AL to run him, would be a pretty fair race

It is the 4.125" bore and 4" stroke I believe(427). It is basically what the LS7 is patterned after.

Exactly why everything was done has been clearly stated. Was it the best thing to do, no. But grinding the throws did solve the problem of the crank hitting the bottom of the piston under the wrist pin, when in a pinch. It just so happens that it was hitting the piston skirt as well at BDC when the piston rocked as it started back up. Basically the piston was moving and hitting the crank not the crank was hitting the piston, where there was .050 clearence before.

Comments like that are just not necessary.

Also, the crank is going to have to be rebalanced anyhow after some of the skirts are milled off for clearence, which will lighten the rotating assembly.

That is correct.. without all the headaches of an aftermarket resleeved LSx block.

As I stated before...I think it's GREAT that Cody is attempting a rather compicated first-time build on his own....

BUT....before you attempt even an OIL CHANGE you should know what you are doing !!!, SOMEONE here should have warned him LONG before I made my comments that GRINDING MATERIAL OFF OF A BALANCED CRANKSHAFT WITH A GRINDER TO PROVIDE PISTON CLEARANCE IS A BAD IDEA !!!!. And having a machine shop that has NEVER worked on a Gen III do THIS ONE as their first probably wasn't the best idea ever......a more experienced shop would probably have saved Cody a world of heartache

just my .02......
