Well upon closer inspection of the engine it seems the pistons were rocking just a little in the cylinders and the skirt of the piston would hit the crank causing the knocking noise. The skirts of the pistons are going to get cut down some and the crank will get rebalanced again so it will be perfect and the crank may get a little taken off it just depends. Once again a problem that was suppose to have been taken care of by someone else and wasnt so it looks like I need to learn how to make all the calculations my self so if it is screwed up its cause of something I did not someone else.

Has the machine shop you're dealing with ever delt with a GenIII engine before?? It almost sounds like they are using yours as an "experiment"

No. This is the first genIII engine they have ever done. They are the best shop in the area and are very good people, a low volume father and son team. The only reason they did it was because I was envolved. They didn't want to touch it to start with so I take some responsiblity. I and they knew it would be a learning experience for everyone. If it was a 4.000 stroke instead of the 4.100 there probably wouldn't have been any issues. At least it has been resolved. You live and you learn.
It really isn't a big deal. It just touches the surface of the issues that I have had in the past. The only reason Cody is squaling is because he didn't have the time we needed to do it properly. He has decided that he has the time now.

Hey Mark can you get them to turn the crank down .02 cause the weight by the reluctor looks like and I dont want any chance of the the skirts/ part that goes over the wrist pin hitting the counterwieghts.

I think I remember telling someone that I didn't like 4.1 stroke motors... I bet you guys don't like them now too. I did a 396 LT1 motor one time and went thru the same thing you guys are going thru now. Now I only do 383 LT1's and 4.0 stroke LS1's

If you two need anything, give me a yell.. I'm not that far away.

Why, you affraid someone might see your work.
.020" won't get it any better. Remember the throws were not clearenced evenly. In order for them to clean that up with a lathe they would have to take .200" at least and that would require heavy metal to be added to the crank to balance. Actually, they may have to add some heavy metal to get it to balance as it is since it has been ground on.

Screw it. That **** needs to be fixed atleast on that one throw by the reluctor. The other one it would just make me feel better for it to be cut down a bit. Im not worried about nayone seeing my work I know it looks like ****. I just want the high spots removed a bit.

The only reason why I say the extra little stroke MAY be worth it is to be different I hate doing the same thing everyone does too many people ahve 408s I cant think of anyone off the top of my head with one.
