Good to know. I'm in Indiana and I don't plan on running it much in the winter but my main concern was if the radiator would add too much heat to the tranny fluid using the radiator cooler. I just finished up heads and cam with a circle d 4000+ stall converter and I want to make sure it's gonna be cool enough with both coolers! Going to be adding it to the truck within the next week or so. Thanks for the help guys!!!!!!

Don't worry about to cold of trans fluid. It'll be fine. Throw a qt or fluid in the snow bank, wait a day, open it and pour it out.

**** don't freeze in buffalo NY.

Does anyone know if the EAD brackets and fittings would work on a 1996 chevy half ton with a 4L60E?

Does anyone know if these will work on my 60e on my 1996 truck? I know I will need to find a way to mount it, but if I can get the hard lines routed to the cooler, will these fittings make it a simple bolt on? Thanks.

Is it possible to overcool the transmission? Some people are reporting like ~150F trans temps, that seems awfully low, as in maybe the oil is too thick at this temp and can't lube properly, or it creates too much friction? I'm going to swap in an 80E and need a cooler to go with it.

And how many of you are running the oil through the radiator first? With my 160 thermostat the coolant temp is around 170F on the highway, might be good to run it though the radiator to get it warmed up? Lowest temps around here are like 28F, but that's pretty rare.

i think i read some where that you need it over 130º as there is a sensor in there that tells it when to start locking and unlocing the converter.

I see... On my daily commute to work in the morning I get on the highway after about 2 minutes of running, the engine temp is only 100-115F. I'll probably run mine through the radiator to warm it up faster.

Lockup in every truck ive been in occurs around 75*, from what ive read you at least want it warm enough to stay locked, but thats for the guys from waay up north..
Imo i wouldnt worry as long it stays over 100 all the time which it should with it ran thru the radiator, and i try not to beat on stuff until trans gets to the 120 mark.
This past winter i tried to start my truck and let it run until the temp gauge moves a decent amount. Thats with a 160 tstat truck parked outside, and avg size trans cooler(not a 40k) and sometimes it would still take a couple miles for the trans to get warm enough to lockup depending on how cold it was..
I would def run it thru the radiator if you see overnight sub freezing temps on the regular..
also 170* temps arent low btw imo, 200* and up is the danger area, if you have 170* in the winter, your summer temps will be too high.

So to sum it up.., if you rarely see 28* temps and live down south, just bypass the radiator and give it a few extra minutes to warm up on the cold mornings and you should be fine..
