I got this fitting and I am fairly confused… the fitting from NAPA has a 5/8 NPT end on it… NOT inverted flare…. so I don't see why people are recommending this fitting… am I missing something?

Thanks!!
I'll bump that for ya

the fitting is to screw into the cooler. the other end is where the stock cooler lines go if you already have a cooler. if yours just goes to the radiator then you may not need that fitting as you have to plumb the lines how ever you want.

What extra fittings are needed when not by passing the raidiator, that atomic has listed on the first page?

Your last post was in 2012 - I hope you are still in reach.

I want to thank you for the detailed images you put into this post. I have a 2005 with a Radix also and wanted to see if my HX and the 40k would fit and your aerial photo angles was a true blessing for me to find.
I have a Mercado Racing HX thats a little thicker than the Magnuson OE HX and was worried.
I ordered my 40k today.

Tell us how your temps did after the install? Is you radiator still in the mix?
How is the truck doing?

Default My 05 With Intercooler Install Went Well

Transbuilderguy is building me a Level 4.5 and he prescribed the 40k.

So on Doctors orders I made my own custom mounts with the lower one integrating my Mercado Racing intercooler.
I bypassed my radiator and used one of those lines in the process.
I used a small tubing bender and it worked out well allowing me to use the OE line support and routing hole.
Swagelok fittings and the Doorman 800-605 push to connect inlets in the cooler.
The space between coolers is 5/8".

Edit: Forgot to say thanks to all who posted in this very useful sticky thread.

The intercooler hose you see draped out has a protective wrap because of close proximity to bumper mounting hardware.

I made an additional bend in the OE line taken from the radiator that worked out well for fit and routing.

There is 5/8" clearance between the HX and the Tru Cool. Since the photo was taken I adjusted for proper clearance between the Tru Cool and HX top bracket.

One of the lower HX mounts.

This how I routed to the bypassed line. The rubber you see is a protective sleeve made from a section of the hose Tru Cool supplied.
I razor split it in a spiral and put it over the line. It clears even with the sleeve but runs in close proximity to the frame & cross member.

Ready for the grille.

Thanks, and Thanks for the great transmission and recommendation to install the TruCool 40k.

The report on the TC40k cooler performance is a major difference even though it sits behind a water to air heat exchanger.

In 90+ temps I muscle to work 30 minutes on interstate and then city drive 10 minutes to the parking lot where it idles 5 minutes before I get out.
With the OE cooler It got up to 210°F once. Now it does not break 170°F. And if I let it idle until the fans shut off it comes down to the 150's.

Love It.

Installed my 40k this am with the EAD brackets, didnt have to cut the line on the right side just moved it over and it lined right up!!!! I did however mount the brackets backwards on the cooler... I also noticed my coolant temp was lower also.... Wish i had installed one years ago!!!
