Default Installed SUV rear brakes on my Silverado

work was a little slow yesterday and I did a rear brake job on a Suburban. The customer wanted new rotors but tere wasn't anything wrong with their old ones. so I machined the rotors, called NAPA and got some loaded calipers for a suburban, and slapped it all on my truck.

I needed rear brakes anyways, because my rear rotors were delaminating like crazy.

brakes feel much better now, i'm guessing its mostly due to the old one pulsating like crazy and not having much pad to rotor contact because of the condition of the rotors. but why put stock stuff back on when you can upgrade?

cost me $140 for everything, but the rotors were free.

yup, everything else is the same. I didnt even have to cut the backing plates. you just need:

rotors, calipers, caliper brackets and pads.
I bought loaded calipers and they came with everything.

I'm going to be doing the 05+ front brakes as soon as I get a good set of used rotors

from what year suv? 99-06?

I assume its a double piston caliper with bigger pads? but is the rotor diff? they look pretty close

Great tip! Hadn't heard of, or read this, anywhere else before.

My 02 Z71 brakes don't pulsate, but they sure as heck don't stop for **** either...
In fact, just yesterday I had a white knuckle experience trying to make a (not even all that) quick stop with about 3/4 ton load of scrap in the bed.

I see the Suburban has dual piston calipers, which surely helps.

If I am reading your thread right...
LOADED Calipers are 100% bolt-on, including caliper brackets?
Rotors, Brake hoses, park brake, everything, fits 100% modification-free?

What year Suburban was it?

I see mention of 05+ front brake swap...is that also simple bolt-on?
More details, please.

Trevor, 00-06 SUV. and yes Quik, the SS Silverados are the same setup.

dual pistons with bigger pads, and the rotors are twice as thick.

rel3rd, the rotors were from an 05 Suburban Z71, but they are the same for Tahoes, Escalades, Silverado SS Etc.
and yes, the brackets use the same mounting holes and the hoses fit without and issue. e-brake stuff is all the same as well. you can trim the backing plates a little, but mine fit behind the caliper bracket without interfering with the movement of the pads, so i left it.

I believe the 05+ brakes are the same type of bolt on upgrade, but i haven't measured the bracket mounts yet to verify the spacing is the same. I think more than a few people on here have done it on here. i'm sure theres a thread

I've done this too. They work great. If you really get on it, they will lock up the rear....Not always a good thing though.

Qwank, are the 05+ rotors bigger in diameter than the stock 99-02 rotors? i was just talking to Ben ( silv-mod-o ) and i am in need of a upgrade but not yet ready to spend the money for the best just just ( wildwood, baer so forth ) my situation wouldbe running on a 15" rim, i can always have them milled ( im not greinding this time lol )


i would like to keep the same rotor size and beable to fit a dual piston caliper on my truck but still use a 15" rim

This seems like a great, inexpensive brake upgrade, I'll have to remember this for the future....SUV rears and 05 fronts...will they fit with 16" wheels?
