Anyone have a P/N for 8.6 10 bolt pinion crush sleeve?

Default Anyone have a P/N for 8.6 10 bolt pinion crush sleeve?

Overtightened mine tonight

I need to get a new one, anyone have a GM PN? I checked with my local Napa today and they don't have one. Next stop is the dealer as long as they aren't crazy overpriced.

My NAPA had one in stock, they might have one and not know where to look. I always get 2.

Dealer had one this morning for $15. I actually think the ones they had at Napa yesterday would have worked too, they didn't look right but I was remembering the length of the sleeve wrong.

You should be fine if you got 20 in. lbs. If you do another diff, always have at least 2 crush sleeves. If you intend to enjoy beer while doing this, have at least 8.

How are you crushing the sleeve? When I did my gear install I couldn't crush it even with a 600 ft-lb impact gun, or with a floor jack under a 2' breaker bar with a 3' cheater. I ended up reusing the stock one and it's been fine for 10k+ miles.

In a pinch I've re-adjusted the crush sleeve over an old pinion gear. Lots of people simply reuse the old crush sleeve after adjusting it.

So long as you get the 15-20 inch/pounds for used bearings or 25 lnch/pounds for new bearings yo are golden.

If you use a new crush sleeve, you have a higher preload on the pinion nut due to the force needed to crush said sleeve. The preload of the nut is good for a number of things like keeping the nut tight and preventing any kind of fatigue in the pinion snout.

Re-using a crush sleeve does not give this same preload.

That nut isn't going anywhere, I'm worried more about the bearing preload than preload on the nut.
Ive straightened them out, there is a force pushing back. But I do understand your point of the force not being the same between a new crush sleeve a reused crush sleeve that has already been crushed, then re-adjusted with the straightening, then re-crushed. The metal has been work hardened/fatigued for sure.

What is your opinion on using a solid spacer? I'm not sure I understand how that would work?
