Default 5 Speed guys ever do the drill mod?

Just wondering if the 5 speed trucks are like the 6 speed cars where there's a restriction in the hyd line between the master and slave? If this has a restriction, and could be drilled out, we could shift fast like the 6 speed camaro guys Do the trucks have this restriction and would we benefit?

http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm

Look under the install docs and trans section to see what I'm talking about

Yes, I did it. But the synchro assembly design is probably the limiting factor on the fast shifting. The truck trans are made for durability not performance. It couldn't hurt to do it to try it out to see if there is a noticable difference.

When you say that you did this, did you do it to your T56 or your NV3500? My old man has a NV3500 in his 100K Mile 97 WT with a 4.3L. His trans shifts faster than mine. I don't know if there's a difference in trans or hyd assembly or just that his is worn more allowing it to shift faster I can shift super fast between 1-2. 2-3 is lazy though and 3-4 is just so so. I was wondering if this is due to the clutch not releasing quick enough (waiting for fluid to return) or due to the design of my transmission. Parked with the engine off my trans shifts real fast

I have wondered this myself...I cannot shift 1-2 about 5500 w/o the bitch grinding...if I shift before then its ok...any other gear you can shift whenever...Im sure 160k+ may have something to do with it but w/e...run it...

I did it to my stock truck hyd line but with the T56 trans in it. I have a 1995 GMC NV3500 and it shifts faster than my 2005 TR3450 did. Sometime after Tremec assumed New Venture they changed the design and the name. It doesn't shift as fast IMO.

i have also done the drill mod. its the same theory. GM used a small restrictor. if you drill it out youll have better hydralic pressure and flow

I just got used to the shifting. I've gotten the 2-3 quick enough where i can actually chirp the tires once and awhile.

try blipping the throttle between shifts, jake. no expert advice, but thats how i kept mine from grinding in the 90 gmc. which i think had the same trans.i could also chirp forth in that 350tbi monster.
