4L60E woes. Again and again.

New member here. Just browsed around the sight and sort of know what to expect but;;
'03 Silverado Ext 5.3/K&N intake kit/Flowmaster muscletruck 40 series/ Superchips Max microtuner-Perf.-shift points slightly down-shift pressures slightly up-29.5 tires-stock gear.
37K- 1st tranny fried. 70K- 2nd tranny fried. 71K- 3rd tranny slipping.
49K left on warranty
It seems that there are some real knowledgable guys on here when it comes to tranny problems. It seems that there's no shortage of experience available when it comes to these F*&^%$$# Automatics. I'm left with no choice but to take it back to the dealership that installed it and see what their standard procedure is for a 1000 mile failure. I'm sure they'll want to blame me or the program again. Whatever---
After reading a little here tonight I'm very curious as to the costs involved with a swap from auto to 4 or 5 speed manual. I can fabricate and wrench fairly well, but this whole computer operated crap scares me.
I love my truck. I love the 5.3. And I'd love to feel the grab of a clutch under me again. This is the last autobox I will own until they put my diapered old butt in a Buick for a sunday drive away from the nursing home.
I came on here tonight to seek help with keeping my truck going. Now I just want to get rid of it.
So-- who's got a plan for a street 5 spd?

It seems that throwing 3 grand at the problem would give me SOME of my confidence back, but I don't know. I've never driven automatic trucks, and I kind of think of them as an oxy-moron. This is not a Camaro carrying a beach chair and an umberella.
I need a few days to brew on this. I've got to get my local tranny shop to plug in their diagnostic box and take a ride with me.

if you say your a decent fabricator/wrench, look into a 4l80. its a much tougher auto,makes the 4l60 look like a bitch. but unless you build it tough, like a shift kit, its going to fail under high horsepower also. if you have a stock 5.3 u will never run into a problem with the 4l80

i did the t56 swap on my truck i think it came out to 1700 dollars with everthing but the tune witch i already had so it was free for a retune. And i dont see why everyone has such bad experiences with the auto, i fed mine bout 10 bottle of nitrous runnin a hundred shot. It never slipped once and that was sprayin through the shifts. It was a bone stock trans with probably 450 lbs of troque or more goin through it with the nitrous. I guess i just got a really good one out of the bunch. But yeah six gears is the way to go the gear ratios are so close to you never even come close to gettin out of the power range.
