An OS without EVAP monitoring?
#1
Has there been a GM LS / Vortec GenIII from 1999-2007 OS that does NOT monitor the vehicles EVAP system? So basically when you scan the vehicle and look at the emissions readiness tests, EVAP shows N/A.

The EVAP system is part of the chassis (the original chassis) IMO and has NOTHING to do with the emissions of the engine. Unfortunately GM uses the engine ECM to monitor this system and it is listed under "engine emissions". So the only way to satisfy their (DMV) test is to COMPLETELY replicate the EVAP system, which includes the Level Sensor, Pressure Sensor, Purge Solenoid, Vent Solenoid, Charcoal Canister, and all relative hoses & tubes. A guy up here as done it, but also ran into a problem that the EVAP tests rely on tables related to tank / system capacity (which can be changed, I know how). They do checks on pressure, leak down, etc. And if any of the volumes (tank or even hose lengths) are different from factory it causes an EVAP DTC during the "drive cycle" and the EVAP readiness test will NEVER complete to get your initial inspection in the first place.
My thought was if a Non-Evap Emissions segment could be swapped into a standard calibration to get the EVAP listed as "N/A"

Look for a GMPP calibration if one exist for your swap.
I know on the LS3 engine with the E67 ECM it does not have that stuff as it was designed to be swapped in to an older vehicle.
The only thing active is the catalyst monitor and the purge monitor.
Not sure what tuning equipment your using.

That goes to show you that even GM doesn't consider EVAP as engine emissions! I provide engines & tunes to customers doing swaps in all year / types of vehicles. This has just recently been a stumbling block particularly here in Nevada if wanting to swap into like 1976-2000 vehicles. I believe turning off all relative EVAP in the calibration is still acceptable in many states.
I use HP Tuners, but would buy EFI Live just for segment swapping if it would solve my problem. But I only deal with the Vortec series engines. I see that GMPP even shows their "E-Rod" & "Connect & Cruise" packages for pre 1976 installation. This is a bummer because I'm getting a lot of requests from customers to update their C & K series (70's, 80's, & 90's) with the more modern GenIII Vortecs. Even without the EVAP systems it would be a much cleaner fuel efficient truck.
I have considered approaching the DMV regarding this, but don't know if I want to take that on, or would it make a difference. I'm plenty busy doing other applications but feel sorry for these customers as they are loosing their options because of misunderstood circumstances by the DMV.
Is there anyone around that could modify the calibration code to eliminate EVAP?

That's a little further than anything I currently know of would go.
You would have to get into Hex a decimal coding stuff.
I think there is equipment out there and people with the know how but it's uncharted territory.
A while back I ran into a guy at a swapmeet that claimed to have the original tuning software from GM but I don't have his contact info.
Maybe check into TunerCat software. Not the Jet Spectrum version of it.
The software is available through Moates.net but I am not sure what you can change or adjust regardeing those files. Check the software manufacture site for capabilities TunerCat
