New component speaker install questions
#1
I have a 2004 LS Silverado 1500 cc and I am updating the stereo and speakers. The truck does not have a Bose system or factory amp that I have been able to locate. I popped of the driver and passenger door panel and noticed there is already a component setup installed. My question is can I direct wire the tweeter and the driver into their respective wiring without using the aftermarket crossover? If I need to use the aftermarket crossover where is the main input wiring that needs to be used located? Thanks for the assistance.

Spend the time and do it right.
You can reuse the factory tweater housing. I used my RotoZip to cutout the housing so my new tweeters would fit. I used baffles for the midranges. The passive crossovers are in the kickpanels, NOT the doors.
When I did mine, I ran RCA cables to my amps in the back, then wiring from the speakers to the amp. I soldered every connection where I had to add to my wiring.

Thanks madmann26 for the input regarding the mounting but my focus was regarding the wiring. If I use the factory wiring will I need the use the aftermarket x-over or did Chevy wire the truck with some form of x-over already since there is a factory component system currently installed? If I need to use my own x-over where and which set of wires are the "main input" speaker wires prior to breaking off to a sub and tweeter?
