bypass bose system

Yes... What all are you looking to do?
I am using the stock head unit with 2 amps, Alpine speakers in the doors and some cheap *** subs under the rear seat. Basically anything you want to do can be done.

I have a sub in the rear but I wanted to re do the rear and door speakers to aftermarket and a set of amps for them but with the gmos hooked into my aftermarket radio and That takes all of my rca's away. From what I heard is that you have to completely get rid of the bose system and re do it from square one. but then I am going to lose my door chimes. I could careless about my onstar

if you want to replace your speakers and amp them anyways, then why on earth would you plug the BOSE RCAs into your aftermarket radio?
but to answer your "what does it entail" question, this is how you do it...
you either A: buy an aftermarket radio, bypass the amp and install new speakers. or B: run aftermarket amps, with aftermarket speakers.

I plan to run aftermarket amps and aftermarket speakers. But my concern was that I am going to lose my factory door chime and all the other security stuff that is involved. I was told that if I bypass the bose system completly then I would run into problems

I don't think the amp has anything to do with the chimes. I was under the impression that is controlled by the stock head unit and now in your case with an aftermarket HU the chimes are now controlled by the gmos...
I would go to www.the12volt.com and ask there.

Right but by plugging in the gmos you have to use the rcas on the gmos and plug them into your rca inputs on the aftermarket radio
unless I just plug in the gmos and do not use the rcas that are on the gmos.
This is where I am puzzled

the RCAs on the GMOS that you would normally plug into your aftermarket radio are if you're keeping the bose. If you're adding amps and speakers, you're obviously not going to use the bose, so theres no reason to plug them into your radio.

I think this is how a buddy did his. If you want to keep the door chime get a cheap speaker of even the stock speaker that you are not going to use, and stash it underneath the dash somewhere. Wire in the speaker to the whit and white/black that is the only speaker that has chime in it. I dont think u have to have the rca plugged in for the chime to work.
