I have JL component speakers in the front and 2 jl 10" w3v3 They sound awesome but needs a little more mid range sound.

My rear 4X6 speakers are stock. I know NO BASS will come from 4X6 haha but any input on certain brands that would put out more Bass than others would be appreciated.

Or should I wire up a lil 6 or 8 inch sub to get mids out of?

 

Yeah I had the same issue... Missing mid bass and the 4x6's weren't cutting it. Bought some molded custom fit kick panels through eBay. I believe they were qlogic brand. Added a 6.5" mid bass and a compression tweeter to each kick panel. That made a huge difference in my mid bass and overall sound quality.

The owner before me tried installing a pair of 8" subs in the door panels Luckely he only cut an 8" hole in the driver side. *** hole tried to hid it, I asked where the speaker was and realized what he did. Made him take off $800 the price for a new door/paint. Instead I just made a nice custom birch plate and painted it black. Dynamat both doors. Then put JL C3 component.

So you have 2 6.5 in the door and 2 6.5s in the kick panel?

 

If I were you I would look into a good equalizer or DSP. You don't have midrange/midbass because the speakers aren't tuned. They should easily get into the 50-60hz range depending on how you have them mounted in the door. If you just tossed them in the door they will always sound like crap, I did that once and I won't do it again. From then the sub should take over at 60 and lower. If the sub isn't doing it then there is a issue with that setup.

If you are looking at 4x6 I would try to stay with a circle speaker and then a tweeter. A oval speaker isn't good for the sound waves and will actually degrade the sound quality. Also they will most likely not dip down into lower frequencies easily without issues anyways.

 

4x6's aren't meant to play low with any authority. Best bet would be finding a small sub to carry the low end.

 

2K silvy Thanks for the info. I had the door speakers at 100Hz cross over turned them down to 50-60Hz crossover. The subs were at 80Hz bumped them down to 60Hz sounds a lot better. Still more tweet and low end but a lot better.

Would a 6" or 8" sub help out with the mids or add to the lows?

 

I just had a quick look on Crutchfield and the general consensus seems to be the 8" is good for 30-250/300hz. Maybe leave the big subs 50 and below and have a 8" do 50-80/90/100 (whatever sounds better in your opinion) and then have the door speakers take over.

Could also find better fronts that can play lower frequencies better. Focal has some really decent entry level stuff that is quite good on lows from what I hear. I was told the soundstage and overall imaging was really good.

Just throwing out ideas cause in the end it depends on what you want out of the system and how much you are willing to spend.

 

@camin00- yes, still have 6.5" coaxials in doors,6.5" mid bass with tweeters in the kick panels, and just added a pair of 6x9's in a custom enclosure that sits on top of my sub enclosure. Also added a 8 band eq which made a huge difference.

 

2K silvy what did you mean by just throwing them in the door? The Physical mounting of the speakers or throwing them in with out tuning them?

Fast84 im going to look into the 8 band, dps, and equailzers I have herd of these products just need to do research and figure out how they work.

A 6.5" driver is just the same as a woofer, what happens if you toss a woofer into a box to big of small, the driver will not make the right sounds, it will have hot spots and dead zones and just generally sound terrible. With our trucks and their nasty door setups the woofer just kinda flops all over the place. I put some cones on some older speakers I had and it helped out a lot, they still had hotspots but it was tolerable. This time when I redo it I am going to build a box into the doors. Might sound stupid and hard but just think of how good that driver will sound when it's finished.

A DSP is a pretty simple device, I liken it to a stupid complex equalizer. It allows for time correction, tons of eq settings DACs and more. They themselves are a easy device to handle once you understand what you are looking for.

Honestly this gets quick really fast. Crutchfield has the Alpine PXA-H800 processor listed at 699.99. The rockford 360 is at 599.99. Then you gotta think of the tuning mics and all that stuff because there is NO POINT in getting a DSP for that amount of money and not tuning it. Before you look into it to much you really got to ask yourself how much you care about the audio and just how much are you willing to spend to get the experience. I am going to go all out on it but then again I have issues haha.
