Default SSS Winter traction??

I hear alot of people bitching about the TBSS and how it handles like snot in the snow.. and it acts like a 2wd.. Do the SSS's do this too? I am looking into
converting my truck to be AWD.. have more of the parts together, but if it isnt going to get me around in the winter like i want then im going to just stop right now..

Granted im doing this on the GMT900 platform, but i am using the GMT800 xfer case and then using the GMT900 front diff..

Anyone got any opinions or experiences on the winter (snow and ice) driveability of the SSS ??

thanks in advance..

My truck does a great job in the snow especially considering I am making a good bit more power over stock, IMO as far as traction and control on the snowy and icy roads performs as well if not better than some Z71 4x4 trucks that I have driven in the winter.

My 03 SS did amazing in the snow, Went anywhere you pointed it. I did toss 2 sand bags over the axle for good measure.

Mine handled great in the snow this winter. I had some weight in the rear. I have a 30 mile drive to work and we had a few level 3 snow emergencys that I drove in and still traveled at 55mph for the most part. You can get it loose if you want to but regular driving I had no problems.

I left my 4 wheel drive truck at home and took the SS in the snow. I had no problems with traction all winter long.

I love how my SS handles in the snow. As many have suggested, it easily compares if not does better than my 00 4x4 Silverado did. No issues with my AWD SS.

I don't believe you could ask for allot more in winter traction in a stock mass produced truck than what a vehicle equipped with the NGV-149 can deliver. Below is an article written about the C3 back in 2001, which is similarly equipped as the SS Silverado.

For immediate release-January 25,2001

GMC Sierra C3 to open course at Sno*Drift

The recently introduced 2001 GMC Sierra C3 will be the Course Opening
vehicle at the SCCA Sno*Drift ProRally, January 27 2001, in Atlanta
Michigan. The 6-Liter full time AWD pickup with it's Performance Biased Driveline, will provide the final check of the demanding 107 mile ice and snow covered course, before the record field of 60 ProRally cars are let loose in the first event of the ten round 2001 SCCA ProRally Season.

The world's first and only AWD full size pickup truck driven by three time ProRally National Champion Steve Nowicki and navigator Clark Lincoln, will hit the trails with 265/70/17 Bridgestone Winter Dueler ice tires. Supported by GMC and ASC Creative Services, the experience of opening the Sno*Drift course will highlight the capabilities of this new high performance vehicle under the demands of some of the most treacherous roads on the ProRally schedule. Most of the course will use the same roads twice, which means glare ice for the evening sections. With the AWD system and 325 horsepower of the Vortec 6000, getting up to speed will be a snap. When it comes to the difficult part, slowing down, High capacity 4-wheel disc, antilock brakes with a "Dynamic brake proportioning system" will be up to the task.

"We Chose the Sierra C3 because it has some impressive hardware for a
luxury-performance truck," said Nowicki. "As the most popular type of
vehicle in the United States, it is really exciting to see the evolution of performance into an American icon, the full size pickup. The Course opening task is an important one, as we must keep a 15-20 minute gap to the fastest competitor, and I am very proud to have GMC interested in supporting ProRally in this manner."

Watch for the black pickup with the deep V8 growl. The competition will be right behind.

I loved driving my SSS in the snow. As long as you have decent tires you'll do good.

Same here,I actually like the SSS in the snow better than my avalanche, although I hate subjecting it to the salty conditions.
