Doin some research

I have been throwing around the idea of going forced inducted. I have a 06 ss silverado, and am thinking about getting an ati procharger. I am wondering what kind of power might I expect at the wheels with say 12lbs. My main concern would be at this level with stock every thing else, what kind of problems am I looking forward to? (trans, bottom-end, rear-end, ext?) Is it worth going this route first? I am wanting to have a decent mid to low twelve second truck. Or would I be better off going with a built trans, converter, cam, with full exhaust, and bolt ons, and again waiting to save the money to buy the supercharger and or build turbo kit. If I do go supercharged, I already have Hp tuner so I was hoping to just upgrade the injectors and fuel system. (any idea what the limit of our pumps are?) (what size injectors you all recomend?) And just in general what else should I be thinking about upgrading?
Thanks, Adam

Look up member 2004SSS and look through his old threads that he's started. He used to run the same set-up that your looking to build I believe and right now he's building a set-up to run 16psi+. I think he had his stock motor blow up at 12 psi. However I think if your smart about your tune you'll be fine motor wise with 10-12psi. As far as your tranny is concerned your gonna need to upgrade that for sure and your fuel system even if you add a boosta pump will be taxed. 12 psi is the extreme limit of most stock supporting systems not including the tranny which is fo course much less.
Hopefully 2004SSS might chime in because he can definetly set you on the right path.

I think around 10psi will be about all the lq9 will want on a DD. You will want to run 60lb injectors and a intank 255lph fuel pump to replace the stock pump. as for the tranny, you will want to upgrade some parts on the tranny or get a complete built tranny(best thing to do). you will want a converter that has at least a 3000 stall. you will also want a full exhaust to help the super charger breath.

I am trying to do this on a budget so dont really want to spend to much on the trans at this point. I was hoping to get by with what I had and go through what needs to be upgraded later. Maybe I could go with 9lbs for now to just get started and add boost as other things get upgraded? As far as the 3000 stall goes, I know that would probably give me the best performance but will probably have to go with something around a 2500 due to the fact that I tow a boat. I just wonder how long every thing will hold up with even that. Could I get by with just a shift kit, stall, and servos? Like I said I just want a twelve second truck(thats reliable). The exhaust will be changed no matter what I do.

why not just spray it then? that should get you into the twelves with headers/tune maybe shift kit and servos. your 14bolt rear isnt going to blow but your tranny probably will.

if you want a reliable low 12 second truck , your going to need to spend alot if you want to go with forced induction. imo id address the little things first ( trans, fuel system , exhaust etc ) before i added a big power adder. its no fun to have a busted truck that will need to be towed when somethign breaks, why nto have a working truck so you can take it and get something upgraded before it ever fails? i know it goes against the " if its not broke dont fix it" but its quite the opposite when you start moddign heavily. imo you could get by with the blower and lower boost but the trans will need to be addressed no matter what your plans are. a shift kit and sevos would be the absolute minumum i would even ponder.

Thats kinda exactly what i have been looking for. So the trans is that weak that if i even add any boost its done for? Ok well then I guess I will address that along with some bolt-ons then slowly start building a motor. What supporting mods you have done for your vortech chase?

lol i think the question is what havent i done. right now the major mods are forged 370 engine, completel new fuel system ( return ) bigger t trim supercharger, nitrous injection , methanol injection . everything
here is a complete list on my site

also add the methanol dual nozzle kit to the list. check out my 370 thread it should also have some answers .

Ok I am back. Supposing I get a built trans for my truck, and stall. (probably about $2500?) I could sell my 4l65 for about ($500?). I have a budget of about $7-8 grand, so what will need to be done to get around 500hp to the ground. Will a magnacharger with exhaust and a cam do the trick. I already run hp tuner so might be able to save a little on that end. Can the stock lq9 handle that power reliably or am I gonna have to build a motor first? I was hopping to have enough to lower the truck an inch or two and do a little suspention work.
