Shouldn't ever have to put RTV on a V band. pipes may not be seated or the band may not be on right all the way around, but you shouldn't need any sealant on any V band joint. At least I've never had to on anything from my old KB kit, OEM diesel stuff and industrial stuff, lots of V bands for different things and never used a drop of RTV for any of them.

Well, that's good to know. I came across a lot of posts on various forums recommending it. It makes sense though, if the flanges are perfectly flat it should seal.

I will state though, I can't confirm or deny at this time if there are any leaks because of the fact the downpipe is open and it's too damn loud to try and detect any leaks.

Did you check the dipstick to make sure its tight and not hitting anything? Sounds like something loose tapping around to me.

Id start it up cold and start touching stuff and see if you can get the noise to go away by holding anything that could be loose.

Run it for a few days and look for soot around the clamps/joints/flanges. I'm guessing you're tune-up is pretty rich, consequently, any time you're in boost there will be a lot of carbon exiting in the exhaust. This may be a sign even if you can't hear a leak.

Yep, I did a visual when I installed the tube to ensure it was fully seated. It tightly in place.

I agree with you that whatever the noise is it's external to the engine.

Looking good man, what pump and injectors are you currently running?

Thanks. Aren't you doing a similar setup?

Right now stock pump and 8.1 marines. I'm looking at Lonnie's double pumper setup (twin 255s) and some big injectors in order to run E85 (i.e. Bosch 127lb/hr). There's a few E85 stations here in Houston. I plan to keep everything besides injectors and pump stock and see how far that can take me.

My focus right now is just getting the setup all buttoned up with the exhaust fully done. Silver-mod-o is looking into hooking me up with the 4" duramax exhaust he had on his old turbo excab. I'm hoping it works out.

I looked at Loonies setup, but i decided to build my own double pumper setup. but it was too expensive. I built mine for about half of what he charges... I ordered about 90% of the stuff from Racetronix.

Haha, small turbos are definitely good mufflers. Now big turbos... they're another story. My brother's chevelle is way louder with a 4" straight piped S480 vs. 3" duals N/A...

Yeah, well apparently I pissed off some people in my complex. The owner nearly had an "aneurysm" when I fired it up apparently.

I did get around to pulling off the downpipe and I re-installed the crossover. The flange at the crossover to log connection was completely off, with resultant exhaust leak probably causing that noise I heard at the passegner head area. It was a bad idea on my part to wait to tighten that until I had the DP on.

I'm hoping to have a full exhaust on this thing by this weekend so I can drive it...
