Heh... well... virgin to forced induction ... its an 03 LS6 block with 1800 miles on it . I actually have a complete spare engine now... now what to do... 346 or 382... I guess it depends on how quick I want to the tires to go up in smoke. Right now I'm thinkin 382 with an MP122HH... and a 4L85 behind it... and daily driver reliability. We'll see... I'll be the first to admit plans can change. Hell... I wanted an LS2 block... but I couldn't pass up the deal on this LS6 block...

here's the latest, I used two Grade8 7/16 washers under the head of the ARP bolt (one was not enough).....what do you guys think?


I have both 3/8 and 7/16 Grade8 washers, the 7/16 washers fit loosely, while the 3/8 washers are just a hair to tight, I'm thinking I should slightly enlarge the 3/8 washers rather than using the 7/16 washers....thoughts?

 

If you can find a metric washer it might fit right out of the package. If not, I would enlarge the 3/8 to fit. Is the flexplate thinner than stock or are the ARP bolts longer than stock to cause them to bottom out? You could also cut the ARP bolts down, or sand the last few threads and not use the washers. I would worry a little about the washers being soft material and not allowing the bolts to hold their torque.

what's an AN960 washer you ask?

AN960 flat washers are used under hex nuts to provide a smooth bearing surface, as shims to obtain the correct grip length for a bolt and nut assembly

in this pic you can see the bag of hardened washers I had (to big @ 1/2"), then you can see the 3/8 and 7/16 grade8 washers I was getting ready to use, and lastly, in the front the 7/16 AN960 washers that fit perfectly , but I still have to double stack them to achieve the correct thickness, looks good to me, any differing thoughts before I wrap this dilemma up?

each washer is .063 thick so I needed approx .126 worth of spacing.
I may try and find a single washer in that thickness rather than running two....

OD of the ARP bolt is .0472
ID of the AN760 washer is .0551

 

hmm, looks like ARP offers washers .120 thick, I might try those and see if they will work

 

Don't forget to torque those bolts to a quarter turn past strip We don't want have bolts falling out upon launching.
Clean setup here Grip. Making some progress I see. Have you got a timeline on stabbing the engine and trans in?
