Yea you may wanna have him drop that down as soon as you can. IMO 6k is absolutely as high as I'd go 1-2, and 5800 2-3. With the converter there helping your shift extensions and keeping you closer to redline I may not even rev them that high.

hummm, I hadn't even considered questioning Zippy's tuning since he's such a Wizard with these trucks and has been tuning them for 10+ years. I figured he's well aware of what our trucks can safely handle with the mods I have.

What are the concerns with the RMPs revving up to where they are now?

That you're not making any power there... It's literally making your truck not feel as fast, and why put it through the added stress??

Not to mention as Pat said, the factory valve springs on a truck were not designed to take that kind of abuse. Your stock shift points are 5600 and 5200... you are a far cry from that with NO supporting mods.

On a stock cam I see no point going above 5800.

No, not yet - I did call yesterday but he didn't answer and I know he's crazy busy. However, I did ask a few of my buddies that have SSS's w/no motor mods and they spin theirs to 6500 and said one of the benefits is the injector duty cycle...whatever that means! ...it's fun learning being a newbie!

To be honest, I'm really not all that concerned at this point since I hardly ever drive the truck anyway, and when I do, it's only around town and don't get anywhere near that speed/rpm. Zippy will obviously need to give me a re-tune for the Jackshaft (which I hope to have installed sometime in April) and like I said, I trust his judgment. At the same time, I do not mean to be disrespectful to you guys either because you are very helpful and I really do appreciate all of your input, so thanks again.

Because of injector duty cycle??? That makes no sense at all. Looking at your scans, your dyn cyl air starts droping fast after 5500 and your IDC levels off even though RPM keeps climbing so that tells me its falling off power wise. The only benefit would be to help with shift recovery but the problem with that is with a stock cam your peak tq is pretty low so you are already past peak after the shift. Its not going to hurt it unless you start floating valves, however it is just putting undo stress on the motor for no gain. Your stock injectors are maxed also, they are at 97% at 5600rpm and only 96% at 6300rpm.

You have to remember too that scan was when the truck wasn't running right. Since then he's sent me a new tune and it's a night and day difference, although I haven't had a chance to really open her up yet as stated earlier - he has most likely changed the shift points as well.

I think we're in for some more really cold weather but as soon as we have a nice day, I'll take her out on the open road and run another scan.
