So a little update gents. The crank was saved!!! What initially looked burnt smooth up just needed a good hot tank bath and a little polishing and she is right as rain. Didn't take much of anything to balance it either. Had a touch of a holdup, as I got in a situation where I needed a new daily driver. I picked up this little gem which is by far the cleanest 96 i have EVER seen. The irony is that now, I've got a RED 96 suburban, a WHITE 85 C30 dually, and a BLUE '00 RCSB 'rado....... # generations of chevy's, red, white and blue..... 'MERICA!!!!

Alright, got a question
Does this seem like a waste of time and money? Saw it while browsing around and talking to a freidn about roots blowers and heat soak and blah blah. Stumbled across this and thought...... couldnt hurt right? Any thoughts on this? Put it right under the blower

Also,

Got main studs in and having the heads flowed right now. Short block should be coming together within the next 2 weeks once I get back in town. Need to order an oil pump though and I'm stuck. Some are saying get the high volume LSA pump for DOD motors, but everything I have seen tells me I might have some starvation issue under high rpm for long periods of time. Thinking an LS6 pump is good enough and has been for some time. No need for a high pressure, high dollar MELLING I wouldn't think.
Opinions?

If you delete the DOD you can use whatever pump you want. If you keep those lifters then I would recommend the high volume pump. You can overfill the oil slightly to give you some more headroom, but I really think thats more of an issue with the car guys. The truck pan is much deeper.

I would imagine most of the heat comes through the heads and is internal to the blower, so I dont know how much that heat shield would help.

I should have clarified, it's an LQ9 block. I just had it bored .30" over to make a 370.
So no DOD anywhere near my baby. Haha

And yeh, on the heat shield, it seemed like snake oil for what I'm doing. My school of thought would be that it would help some, maybe $50 worth. It's shiny, which often causes me issue, as that automatically makes me think it works haha

I was told the high volume pump was a bad idea unless running an even higher capacity oil pan or a turbo. There was just no need with a blower. High pressure, yes. High volume, no.

And that's what I thought as well. Soo many opinions out there and most of them just guesses. I'm thinking an LS6 pump and call it a day.

Ya I always run the high volume, high pressure Mellings in everything.. Cool build and ya stacks up in a big way in a hurry I'm doing an LSA blower as well on 50 shades build thread. Def more expensive than I thought I'm over driving mine, 8 rib LSS drive and did a full port on the snout. That rail was a huge kick in the ***** tho, shoulda checked more.. I been eye balling the frozenboost.com heat exchanger pump and ice box for mine...
