Is there anything wrong with my main caps? pics inside
#1
Well I tore into the 6.0 a few weeks ago and the main caps have some bluing blacking discoloring to them as well as the bearings. Is this normal? the motor was high mile and I bought it as a running motor. I was told it is from the heat transfering through the bearings. Some have said no big deal its normal and others have said I need the block line bored or buy new caps to fix. What is your input?

it looks burnt to me.
something got hot.
was it getting enough oil???
just to be safe i would have the machine shop do an alignment check
on the mains.
also blow some air through the oil passage way and look for trash.

Bearing look perfectly fine, its not chewed up or blue.
Just have the line bore checked, if it needs to be honed then hone it.
If it does need some honing make up the difference in the new bearings.
Id put some Calico coated bearings back in it.
You can tell from the oil staining that it is a high mileage motor, looks like normal wear and tear though.
The oil pan probably looks the same on the inside.

Your local machine should should be able to get them.
Probably around 130.00 bucks. You dont have to go with Calico but they are the best and its extra insurance.
regular non coated bearings are cheaper... Just depends on what you want to do!

I cant say anything bad about non coated bearings.
Its sort of like upgraded rod bolts. You dont "need" them but hell for a 100.00 why not go ahead and get a little more insurance.
