performance options for 4.8
#1
i just got an 03 gmc sierra RCSB it has a full airaid intake, 40 series Flowmaster, Superchips. my question is what kind of options do i have with a set of heads, or should i p&p my heads and get a mild cam with new springs and rockers. haven't had the truck long but i can tell that there is a lot of pottenial under the hood.
i have head that i can put any LS version of a cam in place of mine(for instance one out of a ZO6?)
Will any LS version heads work also?
your help is apprieciated

I think a ZO6 cam is mild for even a 4.8, I would look for something in the 212/218 range. As far as heads go, yes most any LS head will fit. Dump the Flowbastered and Superchips for a straight through muffler and a custom tune and you will feel a world of difference.

... yeah other than the bye bye to the flow (Im runnin straight pipe) and headers and a tune thats about all that I can think of for mild stuff to do

While any LSx heads will fit, just how well they will work is another matter. The combustion chambers get bigger on the bigger motors, so if you put some 317 heads from a 6.0 on your 4.8, the compression ratio would take a big hit. You can compensate some by milling the heads, but then you will need shorter pushrods. Unless you plan on stroking the 4.8, the 4.8 heads are probably the best choice.

the 4.8l has a lot more potential than most people give them. mine has all the free mods done -- descreened maf, smoothed airbox, tb coolant bypass, and remove the foam rubber pieces under the front and rear of the intake. after that i added an Airaid mod tube and a 4" ramair to the stock airbox. with a custom tune, i have picked up about 5 mph in the quarter. this is with a stock exhaust, cam and motor, and drivetrain
