Default my camshaft woes

this is what one person said about the camshaft i picked out

It will have a nasty idle, and it might have a 4-7k powerband, but that ASSUMES that you have all the other components to utilize that power band.

You're telling me it's a bone stock motor with a cat back.

Stock intake/exhaust, stock compression, stock gearing...

It'll run like **** unless you plan to go race it on Gateway's oval track. It's simply too much camshaft for the motor.

You want something with a powerband of 1000-5500ish... Maybe 1500-6000. Thats what gets you off the line or smokes the **** out of the tires.

Now, if you had an auto with a transbrake and 2 step or a manual that you could sidestep the clutch at 6k, with a race motor in a light car, then yeah, that big cam would work great.
when i asked about it on here, most said it would pull from 4k-7k~ and have a nasty idle, i was aware of that, but he pretty much siad it will be slower than stock and not move anywhere...do u think its worth installing or should i go with a smaller one?

http://www.onebadgmc.com/ <-- thats his truck...its crazy. he recommended comp cam xr269hr...

now im thinkin of selling this cam and getting a smaller one...

i think the split's wrong...... but maybe i'm dumb. I'm told these motors like more exhaust split if anything, unless going forced induction. I wouldn't install that cam if i were you......but i'm not the most knowledgable.

I said that cam was too big for a street driven 4.8 and I'll say it again. It's too big, unless you like 5 in Hg at idle and surging and a 1000rpm idle.

I agree that that cam is too big for a daily driven 4.8, not to mention that it will probably be a tuning nightmare. You'll have to rev the snot out of it to get it rolling. FWIW, I found your original thread: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...&highlight=cam

ROOK- That cam is pretty big for a 4.8 , but don't let everybody discourage you. Listen I run the TR224 112LSA. I can idle, on first start-up, with the A/C on just perfectly at ~750 RPMs. No surging, dieng, stalling etc. Idles damn stock, no lie! This is mail order tuning, no logging or anything!! I will say your truck is sporting more weight (due to it being a 4x4). I have a 3500 Stall and have no problems such as bucking or anything of that nature. You have a manual, so it'd work great. Anybody who recommends a small cam for "off the line power" doesn't know racing, Racing is in the upper RPMs, not the lowers. You can launch at a good RPM being a manual. The only issue I have, is on a hot start I must give a tad bit of throttle on start-up then I'm ready to ride.
Just my .02 cents. check my set-up. Daily driver, everyday to school, work, etc. 250+ miles a week.

EDIT-Forgot he was 5spd

well how much BIGGER is my cam than the 224?

cuz i was oringally gonna go with the TR224. i ran thruogh my gears a couple times, i'd slip out the clutch at around 4k rpms, at 6k rpms id shift into 2nd, rpms drop to 4k, shift at 6k, rpms drop to 3500. so im sure if i raise ym RPMs to 6500 id stay in that high powerband the cam would give me. but im not sure....still thinkin about doin it. little late now though, 3pm...probably take me 6-8 hrs or more...be done around midnite
