how could I tell if the cam was degreed wrong besides taking the engine apart again? That had come to my mind but I don't see any detonation and the engine doesn't make any bad noises. I do have a predator that I can use for diagnostics.

As far as I know there is no way to tell if it is degree'd incorrectly without uninstalling it. To be honest Im not sure what is the correct way to degree a cam, I had my buddy come over and help me with the cam, and he'll be here for my turbo and engine swap. I would shoot a message to Sport Side the moderator. He is very knowledgable about cams. This seems to have all started with the cam install and then became a tuning nightmare. Im sure the cam contributed to the problem.

It sounds like your cam may be off a tooth or 2.You need to get the front cover off your engine and make sure that the 2 dots line up on your cam gears.I am by no means a pro at this, but it sounds like the cam is at least the answer.

I am in no way an expert either, but i think you should pull it apart again. It is very possible(like askipper says) that it could be off a tooth. Those timing dots have to be facing each other EXACTLY. If it looks like it could be off by only a little, then that would be your whole problem. From your description, i am almost sure that's it. Good luck and keep us posted.

that is really weird...

first thing I would do is drive it down to nelson's then go to the track there in San Antonio and compare.... it might be the track were you go to, different climate or something??? your truck should be a lot faster than that.... other than that how many miles are on your truck?? does it have good compression?

Possible the cam may have not been installed correctly. That could cause a big drop in power if you installed it retarded instead of dot to dot.

I just went to talk to the guy who installed it and he said it was right on time dot to dot. They can take the engine apart and check. If its off they will repair it free but if its dot to dot then I pay another 600 bucks. Right now I think its cheaper to go to nelson and then depending on what he thinks I may have to open the engine back up. The guy that installed it has a lot of eperiences with cams and he assures me that it is installed correctly.

Hmm, find a friend that can take it apart and check for you, $600 is pretty high.

$600 is way to ****** high for a 2 hour job, just to pull the radiator and water pump and front cover..i agree on finding a buddy that can pull that stuff off..its very easy to do..
