Default Are the hp gains worth it?

I will soon be getting a 4.8 that will going in my toyota 4x4. I have a freind that has a 5.3 and i was wonderin what kinda of power i would see from putting that 5.3 rotating assembly into the 4.8 and possibly an ls6 cam? Any comments or suggestions?

More low end torque, and just a better foundation to build on. i think if you can get it cheap enough, I'd do it.

ok then....call me stupid, but wouldnt it be easier to just swap in the 5.3 into the yota instead of swapping the internals?

5.3 is a stronger engine. the 4.8 is the bastard child of GM IMO :flame suit on:

well the 4.8 is very low mileage and 5.3 has well over 150,000 on the clock so thats the reason for sticking with the 4.8 and if im not mistakin both blocks are exactly the same?

Ughhhh, the 4.8 and 5.3 share the same block, so how can a 5.3 be stronger than a 4.8. It makes more power, but the strength of the engine is the same. Maybe I am reading your statement wrong. As far as bastard child, I have no complaints with my 4.8. The 4.8 in a toyota would flat out haul a$$.

If you're gonna tear the 5.3 apart anyway, might as well leave the 4.8 alone and use it for something else. The block doesn't wear out on these, unless there was a catastrophic failure. Tearing both apart to make one good engine would be a waste of a good 4.8.

FYI, it will cost you more for a good rebuild on that 5.3 than it will to go buy another 5.3 with lower mileage. It's not as simple as pulling them both apart and swapping internals. You'll need new bearings all around, a good hone on the block, new piston rings, all new TTY head and main bolts, and all new gaskets and seals. All that will probably run you north of $1000.

Also, as long as that 5.3 was taken care of well, 150,000 is not a lot of miles. I tore my 5.3 apart with 118,000 miles on it and it still looked new inside.

If I were you, I would just take the 5.3 and put it in, and use the 4.8 for something else or sell it. It doesn't make sense financially to swap the parts around.

Ross let me know when you want me to meet up with you to get it.

My personal opinion, in your light vehicle the 4.8 will be fine especially with the lower mileage. 150K on a 5.3 isnt anything if its been taken care of well, my old 5.3 had 180K on it when I pulled it and it had almsot 40 bottles of nitrous through it and it looked perfect. The way I see it by going with the 4.8 with 30K on it you are already 120K ahead of the game especially since you arent going to be hot rodding it.
