Ok, the ignorant girl talking here. So why put a 5.3l in a Yota? Funny how jabs are made about Chevy blocks and here's someone wanting to put one in a Yota 4x4. With that been said, would a lot of changes need to be made to support the larger block and/or the rear gearing?

i meant stronger as in power wise. i call the 4.8 a bastard child because a 5.3 has a good amount more power and in most cases get better mileage doing it.

dont think a 4.8 has even made a 12 N/A yet...the 5.3 record is 12.3x NA i think. not that the 4.8 is a "BAD" motor. its a good strong motor that will last forever if you treat it right but i think gm shoulda done away with it years ago and put the 5.3 and 6.0 in everything.

There was a guy around here years ago running a small block chevy in a yota and he said it was about a direct replacement type swap. I think he said he had to change the motor mounts and he had e-fans as well not much else from what I recall. Folks are putting these ls motors in everything now, quality, reliability and easy power gains.

Just my opinion, I don't think it's worth swapping unless you go to a 6L. Having gone to a 6.0 from a 4.8 myself, I can't see the 4.8 to 5.3 swap as making that huge of a difference.

As far as better power, yes in most cases. Better mileage, I dont know about that. I drove four hours, went down the strip 12 times, drove four hours back and averaged 22 mpg with the 4.8. I agree about why they kept the 4.8, the 5.3 should be the base engine with the 6.0 as an upgrade.

the 6.0 is way too much for an older yota IMO. the power to weight ratio would be nuts. talkn about 70mph burnouts

in that light a truck, the 4.8l would be fun. i wanna upgrade mine only because i have a heavy xcsb. between a 4.8l and a 5.3l, the only differences are the rods and crank. everything else is the same. block, heads, cam, pistons, intake. gm did this for an increase in mileage with a minimal expense in parts. worked great. just dont thing its gonna be happy lugging a large truck and/or a load around. lol.
