Default Anyone weld up a set of cracked 706 heads?

like the title says.. anyone ever tried welding up a set of cracked Castech heads?

Just curious.. got a budy with an LS engine that is trying to save some money, i have a set of 706 heads that are cracked, just curious to see if anyone ever welded them up..

DO not try and just say "spend the money and buy new ones" Ive heard that.. i am just asking out of curiosity

dunno if you seen my distroyed head, the one where the valve broke and took out the chambers, exhaust and intake, well i talked to a high profile head guy in houston, specializes in building heads and porting and repairing, unbelievable what he done on the heads, my concerns were would it be as strong or stronger than before? he plainly said it'll be stronger than before, that hes done this before over and over again thats it nothing new just a proceedure to go by ! when welding aluminum

ill pick the heads up this week, ill post pics before and after

They usually crack around the headbolts.

I hate to say it but 706 heads are cheap as hell...I wouldn't waste money on a head that is prone to cracking anyway....just buy a used "good" 706 casting.

mine cracked length wise around the center headbolt. i couldnt weld it even if i wanted too, little to no access. after i took it off and had it pressure checked i took it to a gm tech at my local dealer and he told me the only 706 heads that ever have any problems with cracking are the ones with the little battery emblem that is found under the rocker arm mounting rail.... not sure if there is any truth to it. anybody else with cracked 706's have that marking?

Pretty sure that marking denotes a "Castech" head, which are the heads that are known for cracking, so yes, you heard correctly
