Default Timing tensioner WARNING

For any newbies like me (DOD delete)- Do NOT use the Gen 4/LS3 tensioner on any modified engine they're a piece of junk. I think the best option is the LS2 wedge type tensioner. Freakin $30 part is causing me major problems. Failed at 3000 miles after the cam.

I also change mines to a LS2 for peace of mind. It's recommended all over this site when doing DOD delete.

If it's "old news" the why would WELL respected suppliers not include the LS2 with their DOD delete cam kits?

In my case the front of the engine started making a horrible squealing sound. I thought it was the Magnacharger tensioner at first.

Because its not part of the DoD system. VVT trucks also use these. And it also helps GM validate the engines for 200,000 miles by eliminating slack as the chain stretches.

I suspect if they make an "adjustable tensioner delete kit," the LS2/3 chain dampener would be an important part...
