Spark plugs and wires
#1
Well as soon as the gf is done wrapping presents I'm going to auto zone to order spark plugs and wires already know I'm getting the MSD 8 or 8.5 wires, but spark plugs idk about I really won't the best of the best thinking iridium or double platinum what do you y'all think? Truck is a 2008 5.3 with 70k miles. I know it's alot sooner then the 100k tune up but I'm wanting to make everything run at its best when the gears come in. Thanks y'all

Before you spend your money, I would pull one plug from each bank and check the condition. Most likely you'll be fine for another 30,000. I changed my Silverado's at 70,000 but only because I installed headers and they looked almost brand new. On my Tahoe I went until 112,000 miles with factory plugs and wires and they didn't look much different from the Silverado's.

MSD makes a factory style wire that is comparable in price as the oem replacements.
I agree, factory style plugs are fine, no need to spend more on other plugs. I ran oem wires with my headers just fine until one managed to hit and burn through. Only then did I upgrade to the bendable MSD wires.

I ordered these summit spark plug wires, they were cheaper then OEM wires, and NGK, plus had a good rep over on fullsizechevy.com
I got these NGK Iridium IX's at the same time, not from summit though. the shop/store I work at is a NGK dealer and I got them for about $10 a pack, so $5 a plug!
I havent installed them yet, its a part of my cam swap parts pile. I over maintain my vehicle, but I also live in severe service conditions, summer being +35 celsius and winter being -40 celsius...not including wind chills.
dont buy into the whole spark plugs making power, bigger wires, less resistance blah blah marketing scam. I tested my OEM vs MSD resistance a couple years back and there wasnt a huge difference.
using performance spark plugs like E3's will make you gain as much speed as waxing your truck.

Where did you find the MSD wires all I can find is ones for 99-07. One of my wires is touching my headers but just on the boot. So that's why I want MSD so I can do some bending.
Thanks all for y'all's replys!

Zip ties work wonders.
Spend your money elsewhere unless you are dead set on saying "i have MSD spark plug wires" the hp lose between oem and msd isnt worth the 65+ for wires. I run bosch wires and ngk Tr6 plugs and make enough hp to push my turd around. ill take my 55.00 spark plug and wire change vs your 130+ spark plug and wire change any day
