I'm looking to get into a different truck and a local dealership just got in a low mileage 2012 ccsb lt 6.2. Anyways they listed the truck as having 3.42's? I guess I've always been under the assumption that these trucks had 3.73's? The truck does have a tow package. Also what year did these trucks switch to the 6sp? Flame on I did some searching my skills obviously suck...

Yeah I'm not really sure I want to step up to the 14. Truck is a z71. Weird, I wonder why they listed the truck as having 3.42's and a 4sp? I'm excited to go look at it. My cousin recently bought a Yukon Denali which I rode in yesterday. All I can say is wow! I'm totally sold on the 6.2 for a great big suv like that it f'n rips!

3.73 is part of the NHT package....very easy to check...tell them to send you the rpo codes....GU6 is 3.42, GT4 is 3.73...most 6.2 trucks have 3.73s...my truck is not a 4wd or z71 and has 3.73s from the factory..2011 CC 6.2 2wd

I can't say for sure about the 2012s but in '11 when I was shopping the ONLY way to get 3.73 gears was with the NHT (Max Trailering) package, and that ONLY was available with a 6.2. You couldn't get NHT with Z71, and you couldn't get Z71 with 3.73 gears. Like 01FormulaTA said check the codes, GT4 is 3.73. If it's got that it will also have the NHT code.
The NHT also gave you four-wheel disc brakes (rear drums were standard in '11), Z85 suspension with different shocks, a 9.5" 14-bolt "automatic-locking diff, and I think I remember that there was some kind of better radiator or cooling.
