Default GMT 900 questions

I have a few questions that are specific to the nnbs trucks. Within a year or so I will be ordering a rc/lb (hate all you want, i'm a long bed guy) 2wd, 4.8 with the g-80 and 3.73's. Won't be fast by any means, just a (soon to be) college commuter and work truck. To save me money as well as avoid all emissions and warranty hassles, I was thinking about cutting off the Y and doing true duals with an X from there. Save headers for a later date. My question is are there cats after the merge? Should be really straight forward if not. And what is the primary piping diameter before the merge, 2.25"? Also, is it worth ordering the optional factory trans cooler? It will see some light towing, but will the upgrade cooler handle the heat from even a mild stall? Anyone have the gm soft tonneau? Thoughts on it? Thinking about working that into the deal as well. Thanks

I would get an external trans cooler even if you didn't tow! Be well worth it.

sounds like you will be ordering my truck! i got all that you listed.. IMO order the WT mine priced out pretty good and the only option i left out was power windows which i would have liked. got it for like 21k cant beat it and that was before the market dropped on trucks. as far as the y pipe goes. no cats after the y. the cats are right up at the exh manifolds. i forget what size the tubing is but i want to say its 2.5 .. and about the fast thing. my truck goes pretty good with a tune and headers. Sounds much faster then it is but it will walk on most every day cars and trucks

Yep, now to decide chevy or gmc... 300 horsepower or so stock from a 4.8 is defenitely nothing to sneeze at. But i'm used to my dad's 390 rwhp Formula or my *soon to be* quick '72 stepside. Anything I do will retain mileage. No cam or stall for a long time. What gear ratio do you have schino? On the Chevy site it won't even let you build a work truck with power windows for some reason. I would get the 5.3 for sure if you could get a w/t six speed. But I don't want vvt, dod, or the mandatory stabilitrack.

You got yours for 21k?

Sounds like you got ripped dude. I got mine for 27,5xx after ttl and this is an extended cab texas editon with the 5.3, 3:73s and the 20s. 31k stickered.

Bought my 07 silverado with all power and the 5.3L for $19000 BUT I bought it in March 2008. But I don't care cause I will have it for a while. So buying a brand new year old truck didn't matter to me. Btw, it stickered for $26000.

I would probably leave the Y pipe and just go with a single cat-back exhaust. No real gain on stock driver going to true duals. Get the thing custom tuned. There are some good tuners in your area. Wheatley and Nelson probably the closest sponsors. That would be the best mod to start with. On my truck with a 5.3 the factory trans cooler works good, so I would get it if you can.

Im getting ready to upgrade to power windows.. doesnt really cost that much to add them later.. The kit is like 150.. comes with switches and wiring.. I got the WT to save money at the time, and thought i would add the nice things later..

Do whatever you think will work for you, but keep in mind.. rolling the passenger window down from the driver seat is impossible, even with long arms for a 6'5" person like myself..

Yeah, I have a '72 chevy now so i'm used to it. Unless I order it all the dealer stock is pretty base (no power windows). And the chevy site doesn't have a power window option for w/t's for some reason. Power windows are nice if it starts raining or if someone runs up to your car/ crazed hobo's. When you forget to roll up the windows at night driving into the "hood" lol. ANd the duals with x are for sound, not gains. Might even loose some torque.
