I understand and basicly agree with u but I think u might underestimate direct injection
Hell I have a 2.0 lnf turbo eco tec that's basicly stock in a sandrail that almost 450 hp all because of direct injection and a veritable vaine turbo

The new GM stuff isn't just direct injection slapped on an existing engine...its a whole new architecture. Fuel efficiency is the name of the game, so there have undoubtedly been some improvements made to the design.

Direct injection combined with turbo is really hard to beat. DT/NA isn't that big of an advantage. I agree that GM needs to bring back the baby Dmax, or one up ford with a direct injected small v8. Prob with the ford EB is they have no tq NA so when you load the truck with even a small trailer the turbo's are working, and the mileage goes out the window... A DI TT 4.8L would be bad ***...

I do agree with the baby 4.5L Dmax. I really want that motor. If they could mass produce those I think it would be a more popular swap than LS motors are into different vehicles. At least in my mind they would be. I'd be throwing that motor into every stinking vehicle I could find.

Don't be so quick to dismiss DI. Look at what GM has done with V6 N/A DI motor...The 3.6L has 315hp. Granted, it spins to 7k to get that much power, but that is as much as the LS1 was in the Fbody, just 10 years ago. Just think what a DI 5.3 will/could do.

the new ford 3.7l v6 goes to 7k, and puts out 305hp/278tq, without direct injection.
the 3.5 ecoboost only makes 365hp/420tq with 2 turbos and direct injection.
it seems like they half-assed the output on the ecoboost, it should make 450hp/550tq with a proper tune and the right amount of boost.
looks like gm needs to give the option of the 3.6 in the silverado, it beats the hell out of the 4.3!

I could see that happening in the next generation.
You talk about how awesome a 4x4 EB 3.73 is vs the 3.55/2wd truck or a Denial; how about apples:apples? How does it stack up against its most direct competitor, a 6.2 4x4 3.73?

Also, the next-gen Silverado is slated to receive direct injection and a 400-pound diet at launch, with an 8-speed to follow. If you don't think those items will be capable of seriously amping up performance, I don't know where you learned physics.
