Is the left side the short Side?

If so the clip is probally stuck. I had to cut one off. The diff shop tells me it's quite common.

THe passenger side shaft has to come out with the axle tube itself. So unbolt the tube from the diff housing and don't lose any of the springs/gears when you pull it down.

The drivers side you can just smack out with a hammer.

Ive found its easier to drop the diff out to change axle seals, the right side tube and the shift collar and spring are a pain toget lined back up in the truck...

Default driver side

i hit the drivers side a few good times and gave up on it, i saw i drawing of a manual pic that look like they put a drift punch in one of the holes off the center which would give good leverage to free the shaft otha slide hamme ris the last resorter than that

Drivers side can be beat out, may take some persistence, but it should pop. As stated for passenger side you should drop the tube.

I've done both with diff on the truck. I did it again when I rebuilt the entire diff. It's soooo much easier to drop the damn thing.
