Question New to this and LOST!

Let me start off by saying I know nothing about these new engines. I bought a 2002 Silverado 1500 4.8 with a spun bearing,I found a Brand new 2008 Ly5 5.3 long block for cheap. I have run into some problems and need some advice.

1) The new engine has different plugs for the cam sensors and stuff like that than my harness.
2) I have no idea what its called but the plate thats under the intake and it has a different plug on it.
3) Does somebody sell a kit for adapting the newer style engine to my harness??? HELP Im against a wall here!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Extend the harness for the knock sensors (4.8 valley cover,5.3 side of motor)
The cam sensor has a different plug on it i think but there is a harness made by Lingenfelter.
The 4.8 has a 24tooth reluctor ring and the 5.3 a 58tooth so you will need a converter box for this as well from Lingenfelter..

IF you pm the sponsor Supercharger Connection (blownchevy) Brian can get you setup with what you need

So if I change the cam timing gear and the crankshaft reluctor wheel I will not have to use the conversion box? The engine is on a stand and the timing cover is off of the engine so could I just change them or is there more to it?

To the best of my knowledge, beings the LY5 5300 Vortec V8 was/is a Gen IV engine with AFM, there would be a few things you would need or want to do to use it in an application that was originally fitted with a Gen III. Yes you could convert timing components and reluctor wheel back to Gen III compatible components, but in your case there is more to it than that. 1ST you will need to replace the camshaft and half the lifters with traditional components, remove the AFM solenoids and valley cover and replace them with LS2 style pieces. You will still need to obtain the relocation harnesses, as the cam gear sensor and knock sensors are in different locations than the Gen III pieces. For the knock sensors it would probably be just as easy to remove yours from the old engine to relocate on the sides of the new engine, but they will not fit where the Gen IV sensors are located and instead will have to be located in a empty bolt hole adjacent to where the newer engines sensors would be, as the two engines use different sized threads. Even if you decided to use the conversion box from Lingenfelter for the timing signals, you would still need to perform the DOD (AFM) Delete and relocate the knock sensors and pick up the harness extensions.

You are working on a gen IV 5.3 motor and your old 4.8 is a gen III. You probably should have picked up a gen III 5.3 instead of the one you got. The swap can be done as 1bear says, but it sure would be simpler if you picked up a different engine.

Just drill and tap the Gen IV knock sensor holes pretty simple. Then cut and extend your current knock sensor harness to run to the side of the block. Get the 58x to 24x conversion module. If you are not changing cams, you can leave the motor alone. If you are planning to upgrade then thats going to add parts. Reuse your stock intake to keep the price of the swap down. You can buy a 4 bolt 90mm dbc TB if you want to use the 90mm intake.

I did a write up of what is needed to put a 58x motor in a 24x truck.

To change the reluctor ring you have to pull the crank and have it pressed off and the new one pressed on

Is there a budget? You got a better motor in the Gen4 so, don't get discouraged.

Oh yeah there is a budget but I would rather have the genIV for sure. All this is just WAY TOO CONFUSING! Like my user name states I deal with old school VW,s. So this is all GREEK to me.
