Aluminum block = L33, if it's a 5.3 and not a 5.7..... I think the 862's have smaller combustion chambers, which would give a higher CR.

Post up a casting number off the block.

There's always the magnet test too, if the magnet sticks to the block, it's an iron block. if it doesn't, aluminum.

If I remember correctly the casting number was 125513588

Should only be 8 digits. When I was looking up casting numbers I did find this:

12551358.........99-up...Gen.III, 4.8L or 5.3L, cast iron, truck

Double check that number, and post up a pic of the engine.

on the block it also says 4.8/5.3 sooo idk if that helps

I don't think they made aluminum 4.8s, but I've been wrong before.

-_- i think the guys gave me the wrong one, the engine on my receipt says 8th digit on vin B but the casting on it isn't the l33 its the lm7
