HOODS? Anyone have ideas!!!?

What I want is a hood that actually removes heat as well as the run-of-the-mill ram/induction. There are sure plenty of ugly friggin hoods out there and precious few with heat extractors (suncoast has an extractor option, but the hoods dont appeal to me and they're crazy expensive!). I was just gonna cut some sections out and put extractors on, but then I worry about water etc getting in. Underhood temps reduction will do wonders for blown/turbo apps - at least as much as any other mod IMO...
Any opinions or suggestions wud be welcome!

How true on ugly hoods. U might have to go custom made if none of the usual aftermkt. hoods meet your needs. I know of a shop in the midwest that has turned out some wicked one-off hoods. Magazine cover truck -type hoods. I doubt they're cheap, but I'll bet he can build it the way u want. Otherwise, u might just end up cuttin your stocker.

Louvers is the old school way of moving air & heat from under the hood. It could be done on the truck hood if you removed the inner structure then reweld it back. Remember though that also opens the engine bay to the elements (rain)! Taking the louvers from another vehicle and making them functional is another option, some even have rain deflectors. Lumina's come to mind, how about the 67-69 Camaro RS hood grills?, they repop them & would look pretty killer..............

Agreed on the elements...I was thinking I cud put K&N filter pre-charger material underneath with some actual filter material just inside the louvers as well...here's the ones I'm considering:

Ya, those 1st ones are what he prolly means. The only other style on 1st Gen Camaro were the long style w/ straight slots.
I forgot bout the Lumina, but earlier I thought of the Grand Prix, from ~'97. IIRC, I think they came on the GTP.

prob is the 67-69 Camaro don't appear functional (?)...the drains were just to remove water that pooled under the louver and allowed water to flow out in front of the motor...whatever I do placement will be key so any drips that do occur drop somwhere non-problematic. As for the skeleton of the hood - shudn't have to worry about it as just weld/rivet/bolt the louver to the skin and never have to touch the ribs. R/

OK, more modern SS Camaro &/ or Ram Air T/A. Look under 1 of those. Air came thru hood, split into 2 parts that were "C" shaped, then dumped into airbox. It'd be a shame to cut 1 of those hoods up, but I'm runnin outta ideas. Under normal drivin, I don't think they ever had probs w/ ingesting rain. Torrential rains, who knows? But I wouldn't be driving your Avy in those conditions from what you've told me in past.
Could u make a functional setup, & if worried where drips/leaks go...could some sort of valley pan catch & run off to a more non-threatening location?

Ya...looked into that briefly...too much hassle! Gotta strip, dismantle, then deliver/ship, repaint...wayyyy too much trouble.
