Is a air intake worth putting on?
#1
I have read a lot of posts on here, a lot of people seem to be divided if a CAI is worth putting on a truck. The truck I would be putting it on, is our 06 gmc Z71 with the 5.3 V-8. I would mainly be looking to gain mileage if anything. I have a K&N on my 01 and didn't see any difference is gas mileage. What do you guys think?

I vote make your own.
I have a UPD lid and tube and drop-in filter on my rig, all for the grand total of ~$50 thanks to eBay. Filter's brand new in plastic and the lid isn't the crappy smoked one that always cracks.
Couple that with modding the stock air box and plate underneath and you have a super inexpensive homemade CAI that does just about the exact same thing as the $250 ones. But those stickers on the expensive kits have to be worth another 5hp, right?

Did you do anything else to your truck at the time you added the airaid jr kit, like a exhaust maybe? I put a airaid cai on one of our old trucks and didn't notice a difference at all.

I didn't notice any difference from either the K&N FIPK or my current Volant with ram air...they're louder than stock, and cool looking, but as far as performance or fuel economy goes, they do very little (at least on these trucks, different vehicles/engines react differently to different mods).
But, me being the idiot I am, if I ever get another truck, an aftermarket CAI will probably be one of the first mods I do...or maybe something home made.
