Default 383 or 355

I am going to be rebuilding the 350 in my 1997 C1500. I need help deciding on going with a 355 with the vortec heads that will have a 3 angle valve job done and bigger valves on the exhaust side. It will also have the work done to put a bigger cam in. Not sure what cam yet. I am also thinking of going 383 with the same heads and also not.sure what cam. Will the spider injection be good enough for the 383 and why cams do yall think I should put in either one.

What do you plan on doing with the truck? A 383 with some head work and a 280 advertised duration cam would be a decent street performance combo but you'd want a higher stall torque converter if you have an AT. It really depends on what you want to do with the truck

I am planning on putting atleast a 3000 stall. I want a street/strip combo. I would like it to pull hard from mid range to top. Something to play around in the streets with the fellas from work and maybe a trip to the track every once in awhile.

The spider injection is not going to be enough for a healthy 355. If i were building one, I would go for the 383. The stuff is so cheap to build now days it is fullish not to.

Or do a mild cammed 6 liter and skull drag most any 383 that could ever hope to live beneath that lovely CSFI system in those trucks.......

oh damn, missed the part about him sticking with the stock injection system, i skipped over that generation of chevy engine so i'm not sure what they're capable of...if it was mine i'd throw a carb on in and call it good

Ok. I think that I am going with the 383. I want it to pull hard from mid to top. What cam do yall think would be best for it. Do I need to put bigger rockers like 1.6. I am going to do the 3 angle valve job and bigger exhaust valves in the heads so they are going to be off the truck to do the other work needed. Also what. Compression can I go up to. Looking to get the most out of.the spider injection system on the truck. I also upgraded the spider system a couple months ago. I am trying to get my truck into the low 14 to high 13 seconds in the quarter. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx

For a site that actually will give you any real information on building up a Gen 1 Vortec go to the link below. This is an LS engine site, and most of us ( myself included) don't build up the old Vortec 350 trucks unless we are dumping the 350 into a trash dumpster.....
